I am feeling grateful today, so I have decided to write about my experience working with the GAIN Group. 
 
I have worked for GAIN since 2015, I started my career as a service car washer… which was not the job I wanted, but knew it was my way into the car industry. It’s an industry that I was fascinated by for two reasons. The first being that someone I knew had seen financial success working in the industry with no post-secondary education. This person sold cars at a GAIN dealership for many years, and I saw this person and thought to myself that’s what I want to do too. Secondly, I am a car guy, I always wanted to spend more time around vehicles I couldn’t afford to own. So, my first job as a car washer at BMW in 2015 was a great fit. I was told in my first interview for that job that if I showed I was capable and hard-working I would have future opportunities within the group. I was not guaranteed a sales position, but that was enough for me. 
 
Since my first day, I have worked hard to show I was a valuable employee worthy of opportunity. A couple of years later I got promoted to service valet, then to the parts department where I sorted and sold parts. Sometime later after asking about a sales opportunity within GAIN, I was given the golden opportunity to go to a sales training academy hosted by GAIN themselves. From there I was given a chance to join the team at Volkswagen Victoria to sell cars. I was nervous and out of my comfort zone, but I did it anyway. My sales coworkers were like-minded, and we all got along very well. After performing in sales for several years I was once again offered another fantastic opportunity to be a financial services manager at Volkswagen, which is what I do now. I am grateful for the opportunity and happy to have the position I have. I have surpassed where I wanted to be back in 2015 and I could not have done it without GAIN Group’s mentality and priority of promoting within. I can see even now many young people were hired to do the same jobs I was initially hired to do getting promoted. It’s so great to see that people who were in my very shoes can follow in my footsteps in progressing their careers too. It would be easy for an employer to hire someone who already has the training to do a job they need done rather than promote within and train a new person, yet that is exactly what this group does. I’ve seen first-hand many people like me promoted within the group during my time here. 
 
Now let’s be clear… was it easy? No. Did I have to work hard for many years to get to where I am today? Yes. Did I have to step outside of my comfort zone to improve myself so that I could improve my career? Yes. All these things you will have to do too, but if you do the possibility is there and in today’s world especially that is not easily said. 
 
GAIN group I am grateful for how far I have come and optimistic for what the future holds.

Worked as an admin and sales support for the Vancouver location. No leadership in the company, management yells at loudly and verbally which is super unprofessional. Management degrades employees in front of other employees or on the WhatsApp groups, most co-workers talk bad about you but nice to your face, no proper training and the company is SUPER disorganized. What they say in the job description verses what you do is completely different. Admin work is truly not admin work but data entry and sales. You have set working hours but still get work notifications after hours or messages from management or other employees and you are expected to answer.  One manager will tell you how to do something and another manager will tell you something different therefor you confused on how to do your job properly and correctly. So many people quit before me because of the same thing. Also on professional standpoint, I was let go and they didn’t pull me into a room or in a private setting. They let me go in front of everyone and served my papers. I have never had a job where I was so humiliated and worked in an unprofessional, disorganized environment. In addition the pay you receive is not adequate to the amount of work you have to do and how much the company makes. If you ask for a raise, they will shut you down and tell you no and if you don’t like it you can leave. 

You are better off finding employment somewhere else no matter how desperate you are for a job. I sadly gave up an awesome position at another company just to work here because I needed money to pay my rent. I regret this decision.

The lack of knowledge anyone has in upper management 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I would strongly caution anyone considering employment at Mercedes-Benz Nanaimo.

My experience was extremely disappointing due to what I felt was a lack of professionalism and support from management. Concerns related to workplace conduct were not handled in a timely or effective manner, and communication from leadership was inconsistent and frustrating.

In particular, interactions with management within the vans department were challenging and, at times, made the work environment feel uncomfortable and unsupported. I also found the HR process to be lacking in responsiveness and clarity when serious concerns were raised.

Overall, the workplace culture did not feel respectful or supportive, and I did not feel that employee well-being was a priority. I would encourage others to carefully consider this before accepting a position here.

I have worked with GAIN at Audi Victoria for a long while.

Both GAIN and Audi work hard to bring like-minded, friendly, and positive individuals together to work as a cohesive team. It's important to the company that employees support one and other and help towards creating a place where people are happy to come to work and give great service to customers. 

I feel the group recognizes that its' success is determined largely on its employees. Pay and benefits are competitive in the industry and reviewed regularly to ensure they remain that way. Also, employee's work-life balance is respected and the company will do its best to make allowances for personal situations, where it is able.

If you are ambitious, there is plenty of opportunity within the group for advancement for those who put in the time and effort, produce the desired results and have the personal suitability.

The automobile industry can be a rewarding career for some. If that may be the case for you, I don't think you could do better than GAIN on Vancouver Island.


Working at GAIN Group has been an incredibly valuable experience. The company provides a well-structured and professional environment that allows employees to truly grow in the automotive industry. (if they work hard enough)

The group emphasizes customer experience, transparency, and teamwork, which makes it easier to build trust with clients and long-term relationships. The access to premium brands gives employees exposure to top-tier products and clientele with amazing life stories.

The dealership culture is fast-paced and professional, but also supportive. Managers are generally approachable and willing to help when you show initiative, at least in my case.

The compensation structure rewards effort and consistency, and there’s plenty of opportunity for growth within the GAIN Group network. The Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit and the amazing Villa Eyrie hotel are part of the group, so every time we go there we have a lot of fun. 

I first interviewed with GAIN Group back in 2013 at BMW Victoria as a Sales Consultant. From that first meeting, I knew this was a company that invested in its people. Over the years, I’ve been mentored, coached, and encouraged to grow far beyond the potential I initially saw in myself.

Throughout my time with GAIN, I’ve had the opportunity to work in five of our dealerships — each with its own unique environment, culture, and learning opportunities. Every location taught me something new, helping me develop not just my automotive knowledge, but also my leadership, problem-solving, and people skills.

The one thing every dealership shared was the same sense of pride, teamwork, and family. The culture here is genuinely supportive, and the people around you want to see you succeed.

I’m proud to be part of a company that has helped me build such a fulfilling career and life. Even more rewarding now is being able to help others along their own paths within GAIN. I look forward to many more years of growing with this incredible organization.

A typical day at work, would start with checking the inventory in the Lot, walking in the dealership and being greeted cheerfully by everyone. Afterwards we would assign leads to our sales professionals.  We monitor their activities throughout the day to make sure both their goals and their customers' needs are met. Our General manager is more than accommodating, he is both firm and fair. The whole supporting team (Administration) are not only extremely proficient at providing support, but are proactively looking for ways to improve daily tasks. I can truly say that the culture is centered on creating an outstanding customer experience, which in turn results in happy customers and employees. 
I have to say the most enjoyable part of my job is saying goodbye to ecstatic customers as they drive away in their new car! 

GAIN can be seen as a company that wants to expand and acquire dealerships for the purpose of acquiring land. Any business ideas that help to save the company money will be heard but will not necessarily acted upon. When it came down to training, I, along with others, were told to look over our notes when it came to asking any questions instead of just getting a direct answer from our manager... To me, it would make sense for the manager to just answer the question given that we're new to the position and your job is literally to train us..  
That's just one of many things wrong with upper management. Just be careful who you talk to as there is a sense of seniority and has a very corporate culture that basically want you there to be a robot and listen to what they say and do what they tell you to do. Don't bother being creative. Just do your job and nothing else.

This is a wonderful place to work with lots of support and great training. I have seen some comments from some ex employees that were not so happy with Gain. Most negative comments come from people that have a hard time working with others anywhere. The Car industry is a very tough and competitive environment in the best of times. Most people need a check up from the neck up on a daily basis in the car sales environment. I have been selling cars with this company for 10 years and have been very successful mainly due to my attitude and being able to work with others. If you would like a great company and have some long term goals to be successful you should apply with Gain. Take it from a long term employee that doesn't jump from job to job every year instead of short term employees.
