There is a massive gap between what Cscl says they do, their mandate and policy, and what actually takes place. Most of the managers are inept. They seem to believe their job is to harass and second guess, micromanage staff which gets in the way of some great support staff actually doing their jobs, supporting their individuals. It’s supposed to be person-centered support but managers always get in the way, telling our individuals what they need and want. Managers are also adversarial with most staff, and are over-the-top passive aggressive. Cscl directors are more invested in officially saying all the right things, than in actually doing all the right things. What sounds good, sound bites. Optics, marketing. It’s a mess. But cover it up with ill-got accreditations and marketing rather than actually addressing the problems. Management is exploitive, asking staff to work for free on weekends or evenings.. the expectation under implied threat that if you don’t cooperate.... They don’t seem to care about the employment standards act. They definitely don’t care about their staff. Expendable. Surprising, considering the sector they’re doing business in. I never understood why Cscl hates its staff so much. So disrespectful and unprofessional. Obviously there is a reason for such rapid staff turnover. Cscl directors set up an employee questionnaire allowing staff to review their employer. Give honest feedback. Seems like a great thing, right? Well Cscl called it an “anonymous” questionnaire, but then issued every staff person an unique identifying number they had to attach to their questionnaire. Not so anonymous after all. Then they made it mandatory under implied threat for every staff to complete the survey. Cscl paid for a third party to conduct this racket, with the intended goal of getting another corporate badge as a “preferred employer.” Every staff I know did not want to complete this not-so-anonymous questionnaire but were forced to, and everyone knows the results are skewed artificially in to the positive. Just another example of Cscl being heavily invested in its surface optics, but not so much in actually addressing its toxic bully culture.

Individuals do not come first. If parents donate to this society, the individual will get better care, staffing etc.
Many individuals fall through the cracks. Managers are promoted and or demoted if a friend of a manager needs a job. 
This is the most hypocritical company I worked for. 
Christmas party gifts.. the most expensive gifts have already been alotted to a manager..lol..until they made a mistake and price went to a support staff.. Upper management was not happy.
I do not work there anymore,  the individuals are the one who are the backbone of the society,  not the other way around.. some caregivers were noted to neglect individuals and because the caregiver was related to a manager, the whistleblower got in trouble and the caregiver continued on with neglect.


I absolutely loved my job at ICS. The amount of personal and professional growth I had over the 6 years of employment here is incredible. I feel like the department I worked in was like family. Everyone was always so supportive and understanding. The individuals were amazing, I loved supporting them to accomplish their dreams and goals. My managers and Associate Director were the best I could ever ask for. I wish I could have taken them with me to my new job. I only left because I finished my degree and felt I was no longer learning or being challenged in my position. There was not really an area to be promoted in my department and I could not imagine working for a different department at ICS because mine felt like family.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The individuals we support are amazing people

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to advocate for individuals who continue to have their rights denied by their caregivers. The level of nepotism in the company. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not enough training provided. Company repeatedly states that we are to uphold individuals rights at all times however, when staff speak up to help an individual with their rights, they are told they are crossing the line. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Take individuals to events and activities within community

Company does not respect their employees even though we are the backbone of the agency. Favoritism, nepotism and unprofessionalism is everywhere. Back stabbing and gossip play a big part but managers can bad talk all they want without being disciplined but regular workers usually get some kind of suspension. Lots of stories "floating" around about leadership, managers getting DUI'S and one of these managers is on the transportation committee if you can believe it. Stay away if you can.

This agency is poorly run they put on a good face for the public, but their management decisions are almost criminal. The safety of the individuals are not the first concern for most of the leadership. If you disagree with the way they run the agency you are black listed or forced out. So much that should be reported to CLBC isn't. Things are swept under the rug on a regular basis.

CSCL has good policies that promote the individual's autonomy. They supported me to get my Class 4 driver's license. I learn lots every day and I've met lots of good people, staff and individuals.

Their policies don't always translate to reality. Some senior staff are burnt out and in conflict with each other. I get opposite directions from different senior staff. I feel like our manager thinks this place runs itself.

Very rewarding and they provide on the job training for those without experience or wanting to upgrade. I’ve made fantastic connections with the individuals we support and their families as well as my fabulous coworkers! I’ve been here 13 years and have loved seeing the company strive to improve and stay current, especially through the COVID pandemic. I feel valued by the company and they work hard to enhance employee satisfaction with team building and wellness activities. I started as a Support Worker. Highly recommend!

CSCL hires pretty much anyone, always short staff and they hire people with no experience or education.  It is somewhat a rewarding job, however, the work culture is terrible. Management support each other.  Supervisors are not trained and experienced.  They do not know how to solve conflict and often blamed people instead. My co-workers were dysfunctional, back stabbing, and talked about other staff members.   Very negative and toxic environment to work in.

The people you support are amazing. Lots of workplace politics though. Pay is good but should be better. Benefits are ok but do not allow you to have duel coverage and is stated so in the contract. So if your spouse already has benefits you will not qualify. Pension will begin after 2 years or immediately if you have a 40hrs per week line. Those jobs hardly come available. High turnover rate.
