When I got promoted to TL, I was told I would have to work in-office going forward, and that would have been fine - if they hadn't scheduled me outside of transit hours. I don't drive, so the buses are my main mode of transportation. They knew this. I checked the bus times the MOMENT I got my new schedule and informed the higher-ups that the times they wanted me to finish (11:30pm and 2am) really weren't doable for me because the bus I rely on basically doesn't run at those times. I mean, no bus runs at 2am here but I guess that didn't matter, either. 

I was told my schedule couldn't be changed because I had just been promoted and we didn't "want to ask for too much too soon". And at the time, I cared about my job and I could see the logic there, so I hesitantly agreed. 

When I wasn't able to catch a ride from co-workers, I'd end up having to rely on taxis, and I don't know what kind of crack the cabs run on here but they'd either take over an hour to show up or wouldn't show up at all.  Which means I'd have to walk home alone. In the middle of the night. In the downtown area. (Right past a convenience store that had been robbed multiple times just a month or so prior, too.)

So a month or so in, I brought this up again. I was told to wait, again, and this time because they needed me to cover a specific campaign's support and hours. I asked if I could work from home if they couldn't change my schedule due to being short-staffed. They said no. 

I did manage to make an arrangement where I could go home on my breaks, but only on the days I finished at 2am. It turned out to be just as stressful since I only had 30 minutes to make it home one way or another. 

I asked a third time, and was given another but similar song and dance despite having sent a lengthy email detailing the concerns I was experiencing for my literal physical safety. Because, again, I ended up having to walk home alone in the middle of the night in the downtown area more times than I was comfortable with. 

It was after that third time that I pretty much just gave up then. I was not going to risk my physical wellbeing as well as suffer through emotional and mental distress every day for a job that LITERALLY could not care if I wound up mugged, r*ped, or m*rdered. 

Oh yeah, and I found out AFTER I quit and returned my work from home stuff to the office that other employees who were scheduled outside of transit hours were allowed to work from home. 

This job certainly isn't for everyone. It's a constant stream of incoming calls with almost no buffer in between. Perhaps I'm expecting too much from that kind of environment but there is a serious lack of community feeling in the office.  Because you're taking calls all day it's almost like your coworkers don't even exist. They offer a workplace chat app but you don't have time to discuss anything so it just exists to say good morning and for the team leaders to announce when they're away from their desk. Most problems can be solved by calling the corporate customer support line so it serves no purpose anyway.  You clock in, do your job and clock out. It's very constant and you have at most 10 seconds between calls. I really don't understand how this job can't be done 100% from home.  It makes no sense commute to an office where you just sit there and take calls for 98% of you day and can't even speak to any coworkers unless your breaks line up (they don't). 

In the end it pays and isn't a difficult job.  I'm sure the team leaders do what they can but it really does lack soul.

I work 2 weekend shifts, 3-7pm. I get paid $25 an hour which means I get a great lump sum every 2 weeks for just 16 hours of work. My first week was all training 9-5. So i took home a lot of money that first week. 

When I lost my main job, Map Coms was a godsend. I happened to pick up extra shifts which they paid double for. Meaning - despite not going on EI that month - I paid all my bills and rent. 

When I started in April 2021, there was very little support for the agents they have in Canada. I nearly quit a dozen times cos it was so hard. But a few months later, we were given dedicated support and now everything is fine. 

I have no desire to advance, merely to keep doing this job cos its so easy once you're used to it. Its a great adjunct to my main career path and its seriously the best job for anyone like me who wants a second job during the afternoons on the weekend where I'd be watching tv or playing video games anyway. 

I was working for another company that was bought by Map. We were told nothing major was going to change, except maybe the benefits. They killed any sort of morale my original company had, and we were basically forbidden from trying to speak with other agents. We were also told that we would only be taking our original calls that we had been taking, but Map eyed us as fresh pieces of meat to throw all their calls onto, and had us taking their varied calls, with barely any training on the system, let alone the types of calls we would be taking.

One of the worst places to work at, insane amount of micromanagement, the work environment is very very depressive, and you are expected to work every minute of your day. They will suck the life out of you. 



So Map bought my company and officially took over at the beginning of 2020.  Things went immediately downhill.  We lost sick days, benefits were cut, lost our paid breaks (which meant that people who were just over the threshold of 30 paid hours per week also lost their benefits entirely and the company refuses to let them pick up more hours to make up the difference).

I have been here for a year now answering for multiple different companies and scopes. Ihave been trained on multiple accounts and dispatch. You take many calls a day (always a queue) which is great because it makes the day fly by. The management are very supportive and trainers always willing to help. You can get ongoing training to advance and master new accounts. I really enjoy working for this company. I work hard and I am appreciated for it. That is the way it should be.

Extreme micromanagement, toxic work place hierchy (with employees who are oblivious to a healthy work environment), They dehumanize, distrust, and watch your every move. Screen shot and record all with them if you plan on working for them. I had to go to the labour board, among others i know who worked under them. Be cautious. Do your research (red).

Upper management are narsasist and money hungry

the schedule leaves no time for a work life balance, I understand that it's structured to be a 4 day work week, but during those 4 days, work is all you're going to do. 

you log in, handle back to back calls for 10 hours a day, and then go home to sleep and repeat it all again. 

the calls itself are confusing and you're meant to pretend you are someone you are not.
