Mandarin Buffet

A typical shift is quite busy, I am constantly rolling sushi as fast as I can. Especially busy during the holiday seasons, sometimes the break gets pushed back to later in the shift because there are so many customers. The restaurant closes depending on when customers leave, so there may be chances of closing early or later than usual. The management can be quite tricky to deal with sometimes when it comes to scheduling because some departments are understaffed. I have a lot of coworkers who work overtime, about 100 hours over 2 weeks, they have complained to me about not receiving overtime pay. The enjoyable part about working at Mandarin is the staff and customers, everyone is super sweet, and during your half an hour break you get to eat the extra food that the kitchen makes. It brings me joy to see the children so excited to eat the cucumber rolls that I made. Also, I was taught valuable knife skills by a very talented chef who used to work in a 5 star restaurant back in his home country.

-A typical day at work entails bringing customers to tables while being as friendly as possible
-I learned to keep a smile on my face even during emotional times, how to meet customer needs best and to be as poised as possible
-Management was organized, however their attitude towards the employees were often unfriendly and demanding. Strict policies may have been important to keep up the customer-oriented reputation of Mandarin Buffet, however, you can often hear about them talking behind your back (and not so much behind your back). 
-Co-workers were often friendly but there is less of a team-oriented feel towards it compared to other employment experiences I've had. 
-The hardest part of the job is dealing with unreasonable customers  during rushes
-The most enjoyable part of the job was contributing to the fast-paced operations of the company

It's kind of hard sometimes, but it's also relaxing too. Everyday you would expect something different at work so that's good. Management can be harsh sometimes, but also nice too. It is what it is. Pay is not good, but what did you expect? It's a minimum wage job. But you can learn lots of skills working here, so I recommend. Not so much benefits though. Recommend part time instead of full time

Great coworkers! they were very friendly and helpful. management can be a little stuck up, it's a very high pressure environment when it comes to adapting quickly when you're new. they are constantly watching you. and honestly, the break room needs some work. and try adding vegetarian options for those of your employees who don't eat meat.

I enjoy working at Mandarin, the employees are excellent workers and the customers we handle on a day to day basis can be quite busy but we always work to give excellent customer service! I have learned to better my communication/customer service skills and have learned to become part of a team.

depend on which position you work, i work in kitchen. it was not fun, the boss only need food to be done fast, without worrying too much about the quality.

servers get great tips, but please do not work in kitchen. average 800 people everyday, maybe 1500 people a day on fathers day etc.

Good job if you like being active. It can get pretty busy, so multitasking is a good skill to have.  Wasn’t a big fan of management, so for this reason I give it a low rating. The favouritism was very obvious. I would get very little hours compared to my coworkers. The environment overall felt toxic at times 

Stayed there because it was good pocket money to have and I needed to pay for my tuition.

Learned a lot by interacting with customers and developing social skills / enhancing social skills.

In terms of training, I was only ran through how to do everything once by the manager, and the rest was by the other staff i was working with as I did the job. Everyone was friendly, lunch is provided for a bit of pay. The manager was expecting a bit much in terms of speed for someone who's new behind a bar.

working there was one of my summer jobs and it was not fun nor interesting just overall not enjoyable the people I worked with were closed and didn't really talk to anyone and they also made you work just alone so if something really bad happened there was no real help
