Unfortunately, although good staff are the biggest asset to any hospitality establishment, this is far from recognised, and employees are in no way valued at The Marten - the attitude is very clearly that everyone is replaceable. 

There has been a recent change in management (handled poorly by the owners, with no communication to the team or even other managers, about what was happening or how anyone would be affected), and the culture changed in a decidedly negative way. Whereas before there was a feeling of camaraderie and staff felt supported by their manager, this has now changed to a feeling that management are ganging up with the owners against their staff.

Strong team members are "recognised" by having more responsibility or workload expected of them without discussion or reward, and staff are regularly just dropped from the schedule with no warning or explanation, often leaving them then having to battle for any outstanding pay owed to them. 

Staff turnover here is high (even for the hospitality industry) as you can imagine from my observations above. My advice to anyone considering working here is to only apply as a last resort (ideally a temporary one), and if you do work here, be prepared to always stand your ground and put yourself first - they will happily take every 'favour' you ever do for them without offering anything in return...

It’s truly too bad about the rumours that have gone around about the Marten. When there has been so many positive, good changes with NEW management (not to be confused with new owners) Yes it had some low times & the owners have not been too involved with the staff, but the new management has done so much in so many ways. It really is an enjoyable place to work. I have worked there for the past 9 ish months, through the changeover with management and would like to say there has been A LOT of positive changes all around. It is a enjoyable, fun place to work. I feel staff is treated properly and with respect. We are  aware that they appreciate and value our hard work. Management is open to suggestions from staff, understanding, handle work life balance well with us and easy to confront. I don’t however agree with what we get paid or the tip out. It is a bit higher than average around Vernon I believe, but with the place picking up, being as busy as it is now you still make good money. We are a close group that likes to have fun and enjoy our job. We stick together and I truly believe we will make the Marten great again! I would recommend the Marten any day, to anyone looking join the service industry.

This is one of the messiest environments I have worked in. There is no structure. The GM and the owners have no clue what is happening in their restaurant. Good hard working staff get treated terribly. It doesn't matter how long you've worked there because they will always pick favorites at the end of the day. They are constantly contradictory to what they say. Every day is filled with confusion and frusteration. One day you will be berated for something that has been considered "acceptable" for months. The GM and head Chef both treat their staff horribly and don't have any sense of professionalism. You will be verbally abused. If you want your workplace to be a healthy and safe environment this ain't it. Most people who leave here need to to take long mental health breaks before they are even ready to start somewhere else. The entire experience is traumatic. The only good thing about this place there are some great people working as part of the team. But ofcourse anyone who improves Martens reputation eventually has enough and feels like they are being used to the point they need to leave. 

If you want to work for greedy vile people then, by all means, work at Marten Brewpub. If you want to be taken advantage of, and pushed to the brink... work at Marten Brewing Co. Whatever they want to call themselves...

I experienced compromised dignity on a daily basis, constant illegal activity, serious health standard codes were broken relentlessly and most of all, the denial of keeping reputable staff.

This place is 100% cursed as they say, I hope the owners realize that they're lack of self-awareness and empathy have resulted in a complete downgrade of their business. It's really too bad, they put so much effort into the labor of getting this business started, however, it's clear they don't want to improve their businesses by the continuous turn over of staff.

It also really unfortunate the lengths they go to in order to replenish employees... Hopefully, this review reaches out to those thinking of applying! My advice is to stay clear of Marten Brew Pub!

managers scream at you or hide in there office not wanting to be there. owners treat the place like there club house and treat staff like the garbage. they under pay with promises of a brighter day around the corner. pretty sure they are only in business still cause of there kambucha business and keep sticking there hand in regular customers pockets with price increases. the food is second rate materials all comes from whole sale club and rest assured if its on clearance they will choose damaged product. there beer is constantly off and they sell it anyways or call it something else and sell that. would not suggest anyone gives this place the time of day and would love to see that place audited.

In my experience at Martens Brew Pub , the staff is very friendly. The manager was very thorough with what Marten Brew Pub standards are. He showed me the rundown of the business. . The owners made me feel like family and part of the team. The food that they serve is colorful and very appealing and tasty. 

It does get very busy at times, but everyone pitches in to help. The beer they make on-site has a smooth taste with some of the brands they produce. They give you samples to try before you purchase the one you like. Martens Brew Pub has high standards and excellent customer service. I highly recommend checking out their dining experience at Martens Brew Pub.
