This company is lovely to work for and it makes you feel like it make a difference; but it is not low barrier, and for as much as they want to believe its not based on harm reduction at all. 

To Talk about the Mens Mission specifically; This is a stepping field, its got the grassroots but it needs change. I met some amazing coworkers, but the mission and managment set you in a hypothetical box ; what you can do to help and what you can’t do.. another thing about the mission is that there is many staff  there that treat it like a jail, prepare for a constant at war trying to make appropriate and fair decisions.

When you have issues with the same staff but continuously nothing happens because management doesnt care, or when all your employees are burnt out because you cant hire people, maybe there is a problem. When Clients say that they let all the “good staff” leave or move on, even bet fired.. they mean it. 

I worked at Rotholme as a resident care worker. You’re mostly just an office admin and do minimal tasks like answering and making phone calls, doing room checks, serving breakfasts etc. and although you are front line, you’re not really doing anything in depth with clients as they have caseworkers with separate offices. Good place to get your foot in the door but I moved on to gain more experience. I liked my manager and supervisor at the time and most staff although there are some that act as if they’re a manager and treat you poorly if they don’t like you but that isn’t unique to this workplace. Pay is also about $3 lower than other employers in the field. 

During my contract here I assisted with data entry, mailing out receipts and processing Gift in Kind Donations.  I learned that while addiction, mental illness and poverty are substantial and complex courage, guidance and wisdom will contribute to helping open up access for marginalized neighbours.  

The most enjoyable part of the job was the friendly atmosphere, everyone is very welcoming and seeks to build each other up. 

Management was also very supportive.

Worst thing would be a lack of Government funding and this is felt in many sectors. 

If you work in the kitchen, get ready to work in a basement with minimal venting and fans cooking  hot food in a heat wave. Job tasks and co-workers make the job enjoyable, but managment's constant communication issues, and incompetency lead to products needed to perform the job not being ordered, constant confusion and issues over work hours, and scolding/attitude regardless of job performance. An amazing job and experience but requires a thick skin

Considering its just above the provincial minimum wage, 16 and change to start is not enough when dealing with all the clients and for the amount of risk you put yourself at while managing clients. HOWEVER, the saving grace is the staff you work with and the work experience that you gain. This job is very humbling which you will discover after creating professional rapport with many struggling clients.

I learned so much. The management is great, the staff and volunteers are some of the most incredible people I have ever met. It is hard to see people struggling but it's nice to know that you are making a difference even if it's something small

I have worked for Mission Services of London for almost 12 years.  They have been an excellent organization to work for.  They provide excellent wages and benefits.  It is amazing to have a job that makes me feel good about what I do.

I loved being here. Management was very supportive and the staff were wonderful. I loved feeling like I was making a difference in the lives of the residents. The residents were always teaching me new things every day! 

Follow the rules and procedures, great workplace culture, always learning something new, great atmosphere for growth.Great interactive with clients on a constant level.

Enjoyed my time there. Friendly staff. Free meal each day. Only draw back is the drug culture that is present. Violence is always a possibility. Would work there again.
