Panorama Mountain Resort

I have worked here for an extremely long time in almost every department from front line to upper management. The pay is extremely low for the area, there are studios (not even 1 bedrooms) that are close to $2000 a month. You are only allowed in staff accommodations for one season so you will find no luck there if you'd like to stay and advance in any sort of career. As of 2022 they are still paying peanuts (about 16$ so approx minimum wage). 

Granted the ski hill is very nice and summer biking is insanely good personally racking up hundreds of days on bike and skis. Neither are very busy but the seasons seem busy due to incredible mismanagement and under staffing. 

You will be asked (see forced) to take on other duties from other departments such as housekeeping no matter what your job title is, even the CEO will be forced to do it because they just can't get anyone to come out recently due to sky rocketing rent costs. Recently passing an airbnb ban in the upper village (to try and claw some home owners back into panoramas own rental pool to regain some lost money) but this has no effect because they can't enforce it. 

If you are coming for a winter this is fine, but don't expect to stay much longer than that. The turn over rate is stupidly high, after a season you won't recognize anyone right up to your directors sometimes! I suggest you actually just buy a season pass and work for any of the other companies around panorama or even in town if you have a car as they will ALL pay higher wages in comparison and an $800-1200 season pass isn't worth working for them. 

If you like working in an unprofessional and chaotic environment, this place is for you. 

The whole resort seems to be run on hopes and not a single department seems to be able to keep staff-- possibly because they offer inadequate training and low wages.  Not to mention, they pay peanuts and expect you to pick up extra work from staff leaving without any extra incentive.

There is next to no communication between departments and within departments-- so if you value communication and good customer service, don't bother applying. 

If you're just looking for a seasonal job in the mountains, this place might work for you.  If you're looking to move into the industry, I would suggest going elsewhere.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of the Panorama experience is who you work with. The friendships you create make it worth the short comings. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The department I was working in was great. So we didn’t have any stress that wasn’t dealt with with communication and affirmative action. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is how you imagine it, mountain town culture is laid back and relaxed. Everyone is just looking to have fun!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We all arrive first thing in the morning. We group up and break down the objectives we need to complete for the day. On top of new information from upper management and other new problems that arose overnight.

Unprofessional Workplace. Through my time employed there it was hard to gain a feeling of professional or ethical conduct within the seniority which resulted in a lack of guidance and general fair conduct from coworkers and supervision... What made me leave was the feeling of no job security. After 3 years I was released by a new supervisor for reasons of their own creation, danced through the hoops and around the right people some how presenting termination papers following successful completion of a review this person had administered in attempts to have it their way however end of the day... 


Even if your right and Panorama has done everything wrong, your the bad guy and your going home no questions asked!

If you can find a place to live it's okay for a season or two. There is nothing around with only one bar open and sometimes none depending if they have staff for the shoulder seasons. This isn't an exaggeration the city nearby nothing is open sunday/Mondays besides the grocery chains. No Walmart or anything  big so you have drove 1.5h to go to the movies or do shopping that isn't crazy over priced. 

The pay is barely minimum wage, it's not enough to save anything so don't come if you want to make any extra money make sure you have enough before coming that you can leave haha. 

The people are fun, everything is an airbnb come with a car because you might end up sleeping in one if staff accom is full and you can only stay 2 seasons.

A really great place to be a ski instructor, I was Level 2 qualified and got plenty of high end lessons.

Plenty of support and room for growth
Other instructors struggled with a lack of work, potentially not enough hours but this was mainly Level 1 Ski or Snowboard instructors.

I suffered a knee injury putting me out of teaching for 6 weeks but the ski school were brilliant and always found me work meaning I could still earn a living.

Overall: I would say with the right attitude, you will always find work and be rewarded.

This place, Panorama Ski Resort, is such a great company and mountain to work for. As a Team Leader for the Lifts my daily duties would be starting up the lifts in the morning, co-ordinating with maintenance on any issues with the lifts, going from lift to lift touching base with the team, aligning with ski patrol, daily sweep of the mountain at the end of the day, a few types of paperwork and picking team members up in the afternoon. This job also had a day and night shift roster too.

i loved the people i worked with, most days was just changing garbage around the resort and daily need be maintenance along with weekly grass cutting, my manager at the time went out of his way to throw a work party and invite everyone and there significant others, or family they were living with while up on the mountain but me, i have no hard feelings between the people i worked with other then management, who went out of his way to exclude me from work parties.

When you bring up concerns to managements it will be ignored, questions like your pay, work to life balances really anything that you as a human being deserve. They walk over employees and play favorites' with employees whom will keep their mouth shut.  
If you are looking to work at this company to learn new skills, be employed while travelling at a new place... good luck unless your rich. The prices for the on site "housing" are ridiculous and is not fair with their pay.

While I was in Canada I met extraordinary people and learned so much from them.

I also learned how to snowboard and such, but the best part of my day was my job as Room attendant and inventory attendant. I learned how to clean properly, do stocktaking, run 10km a day.

I learned so much while I was in Canada of myself and of people from different cultures and backgrounds. I would gladly do it again.
