I worked at Sprucewood place for over 4 years, and before the pandemic went to villa Marguerite 1-2x per week. The culture at Sprucewood become apparently negative and toxic within the first year, and became increasingly toxic. Do not expect genuine support from some of the supervisors, even though I was part of management I still experienced poor support and understanding of my difficulties. Expect to do what supervisors want you to do without deviation, and even these requests may end up not followed by management - this caused problems for me, obtaining feedback over months, some advice would circle back and being told to do something done before that was not successful. I was required to force myself to be someone I no longer was in order to appease my supervisor. Which further deteriorated my mental health, with issues being expressed to supervisor numerous times. When I finally left I obtained zero support to obtain appropriate portability and ghosted by the company. All attempts to retain me over the years were done insincerly rather than with my own well being at heart. For the population served being mental health, the organization had a poor understanding of how to properly handle staff mental health concerns. Many support staff would also be very rude to residents even though much of their behaviors were triggered by their illnesses. The culture at villa Marguerite was a bit better however we still experienced a fair amount of staffing losses in our department at both sites. When your own supervisor and support staff acknowledge how toxic it is, and feedback of the same toxicity noticed by our mutual supervisor, I would not be surprised if many of our staff losses were also based on staff culture. Benefits are not great for management, particularly not being unionized. Support staff are unionized, a and some of their benefits were better than my own. Pay grid for support staff is also a bit lower than what you'd see with ahs and covenant health, and my own wage rose slower than with ahs. If work culture is a big determinant of your ability to be happy at work, I cannot recommend working with these sites.

over all working with the seniors is great  at the beginning it was an amazing work environment then they changed  park place manager and site leaders and care managers and clinical lead and provita management create a very toxic environment. They reprimand employees in front of residents and their family. They never show appreciation and also talk bad about the workers to residents and coworkers There is no chance for advancement and they never boost morale whatsoever, and it has hit rock bottom. There is no one to talk to about the issue they lie to residents and they act like they don't care for them. The job is amazing but the management is terrible

If you are working for optima living and if you think they pay well, they don’t. They have the worse structure in the company, they don’t know what there doing, the allocation of work is terrible and the management doesn’t give you direction or any sense of what your doing and when you come communicate and tell them what you are doing and dealing with they don’t understand and choose not to understand or support your personal life style as well, I will not recommend at all working for this company, the owners are always in the office and they don’t care at all about their staff and the office location is good but the office you can over heat and have a heat stroke as they don’t have air conditioning and they won’t want to invest into one.

Very challenging environment to work when Manager does nothing to support staff being on the floor interacting with Residents and staff other than making a 5min if that perception appearance and then sits in office all day. Plays favorites, mingles with certain staff after hours.
Very unprofessional.
When Residents and other staff become aware of these scenarios it creates a toxic workplace.

Overall I really enjoyed my job with Park Place, liked getting to know the Families and the wonderful Residents, my Co Workers were very nice,  Unfortunately the Site Leader at my location, in Kelowna BC made it beyond stressful, she does not care about her Employees, in fact she enjoys “moving you along” - there is no HR department so no support at all, Management does not care how you are treated even after being there 1,5 years - 

Staff is amazing, upper management is the exact opposite all the way to a corporate level. It's has the reputation it does for a reason. They are unappreciative of staff,  don't pay well, and to say management and employee relations are drama filled, would be an understatement. This is a place that you are glad you are unionized, you will need to use it, and if your not, good luck. Complaints no matter how serious in nature don't get any response. 

The job duties for the most part are enjoyable when working with residents,  the work culture is very toxic between staff at all levels.  Poor/cheap health benefits as well provided by the company even for higher paid positions, with some odd exclusions for what can be covered. Depending on position may not receive step level increases in hourly wages,  meaning much slower wage progression compared to other companies with the same job titles.

The staff who are bullying other employees and swing it happen with no consequence 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic- to much drama in general. The senior managers do not have a clue what they are doing

At the time of my hiring, many of the supervisors resigned very close to each other, resulting in all the other employees picking up their slack. The standing supervisors were also very slow to hire or cover the empty positions, leading to many preventable troubles and issues. 

On shift you check in with the nurse and the night staff or in the morning come up with a plan then apply the plan through the day getting residence ready. Park place is a fun place to work. Most residents are happy to be their and the staff works well together making working here a great environment
