Robert Half

The position was sugar coated in the interview process, when really the job is telemarketing. The work environment is grey and depressing and employees are cramped into the office like sardines, which they refer to as the "Bull Pen". Certainly accurate if you want your employees to feel like cattle, as there is barely any room to move in that office. 

I spent most days on the phone all day having the same conversation with people over, and over again. You are surrounded by other staff who are all in their phones all day also. It is loud and difficult to concentrate. 

Employee recognition lacks, unless you are a top earner. Staff lunches are usually potluck and there are contests where staff are asked to donate to the social fund. I don't believe employees should spend their time and money on their own staff appreciation. To me this says the organization is too cheap to properly recognize their employees hard work. 

The way in which the job is designed, you will be required to trick and deceive people in order to make you weekly targets. You are required to interview people regularly even though there is no open position available to them. I think this is rude, deceptive and wastes people's time. In reality, only a very small percentage of people who are interviewed by Robert Half are actually placed with their clients. 

There is very high turnover, which they just say is due to the nature of the job and don't seem to see it's more likely that people are able to see through what the organization lacks.

My particular team was managed by senior leaders from different cities. There was very little communication between senior leadership and they are very unorganized. This end up trickling down to become even more disorganized chaos. The management in Calgary is young, inexperienced and lack effective leadership and communication skill. The initial training is good for the position, but ongoing training is very repetitive and mundane and prevents you from completing your work.

Benefits are pretty standard that you would receive in any salary position in Canada, but without any perks that many organizations offer now like personally spending or RRSP matching and there is no compensation for professional development. Again, this to me says they are a cheap company. You will get 4 weeks vacation to start, but taking time off means you fall behind in your work and may end up owing the company money as per their compensation plan.

You will make a base salary plus commission, but you will be required to cover your base salary with the jobs that you bring in, otherwise you end up owning the company. So really, you are working on 100% commission. Some people are successful in this organization, but I dont see this as a fair way to compensate people. Rather, I see this as an organization that takes advantage of its employees and values profit over people.

I raised a concern about training and how none of what was taught was being used in the day to day activities. 

Regardless if you are capable of doing more or more efficient, you will not be given more until a specific amount of time has passed. I worked on 4 tasks 

-- Does not do evaluations --

All the evaluations that I did get, I was the one that brought it up and asked what I am doing well and how I can improve. One of the senior employees there is 3 years overdue of an evaluation. I talked about goal planning and career goals and was told: "with more time, we will see what I can add more to your plate" . No coaching is given in terms of career development. 

The morale working here was quite abysmal. A lazy employee would offload their work like creating reports to another employee, and then take credit as their own. This happened several times and yet when brought up, nothing would be done. Work ethic does not mean much as compared to how long an employee has been in the position as the longer-tenured employees are favored. 

-- Office politics is huge here --

TSS / PSS and makes the office divided. It is very uncomfortable to work in the environment as there is an obvious divide in terms of management practices and how employees treat one another.

There is no human resources here so if you have an issue with another employee, there is very little recourse to help mediate any situations that may arise without being seen as a trouble maker / not a team player. 

I tried bringing up a concern about another employee and was told not to as their seniority would outweigh whatever I said, and that if I were to bring it up to management, I would most likely be let go cause of it. 

-- Do not discuss to other employees about their job --

Management thinks when employees are talking about work from different departments, it is thought they are trying to poach employees. Personally, there was 4 other people who told my supervisor I was trying to leave my department.  Talking business or metrics or anything outside of my department is assumed to be "wanting to leave" the department. 
Was told to specifically ask for permission before people could talk to me about their job or anything work-related. This made me very uncomfortable cause I was not allowed to talk to other employees from different departments about work. 

After the discussion where I told my supervisor I was interested in another department, I was asked to tell my supervisor who specifically talked to me about their jobs as it is seen as poaching and that they will talk to them. The very obvious divide and cliques between departments is very unfortunate as it the success of the company should be the driver instead of who's on who's team.

When I worked as a Customer Service Representative, I was working in a business that made food packaging, the orders came via phone, e-mail or fax.

I had entered the customer's order depending on who needed their order first as the system they were working with worked FIFO (fist in first out), as well as entering parts on machines that they sold.  Some of the parts for the machines were coming from Germany so I needed to first confirm if we had the parts, if we didn't I needed to know how quickly they need the parts.  If they could wait 2 weeks I would then enter the order and another CSR would take care of the shipment, if we had the parts it was a straight order.

The hardest part of the job was making sure that one of their customers had the appropriate PO in order for us to order their products, especially when they always insisted that they needed the product and that the PO would arrive later, which wasn't part of the agreement we had with them. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to see the end result of the products that they distributed to grocery stores, knowing that I had sent them that product in order for them to put their food products on or in.


When I worked as the Accounts Payable Clerk it was for a manufacturing plant where I verified the invoices with their data base of inventory that they received and marked the correct parts on the invoice with their inventory for that region.

After entering the invoices I filed them in their proper place, if there were any discrepancies I would e-mail the proper person for that region and file a claim number, and follow up with them if I hadn't heard anything back in a week.

I received a weekly e-mail from my supervisor indicating which vendor needed to be paid.  I would print the spreadsheet off and gather the invoices that needed to be paid and printed the cheques.

Once the cheques were printed depending on the amount, it required one or two signatures.  If a second signature was needed it was placed in a slot with the spreadsheet and it was signed by the end of the day.  Once the cheques were signed, the other cheques from the other regions were given to me, after sorting them to and gathering those that were going to the same company I had placed them into piles, indicating to be mailed, picked up, to be sent by Purolator or Fed Ex.  I e-mailed wire transfers and reconciled month end.

The hardest part of the job not getting too comfortable at a job as I didn't know how long I would be there.

The most enjoyable part of the job was learning new computer software, the various management styles as well as how different manufacturing companies are run.

I worked at Robert Half for a considerable period, and my experience was a mixed bag. It is essential to emphasize that the potential of having a positive work experience greatly depends on the manager you are assigned to. Unfortunately, in my case, I wasn't very fortunate in this regard.

Pros:
Robert Half has a robust reputation in the industry and offers opportunities to work on exciting projects. The work environment, at least in some departments, can be quite collaborative, fostering a sense of camaraderie among team members. 

Cons:
One of the most significant issues I encountered during my time at Robert Half was the lack of coordination and communication between departments. This resulted in multiple teams reaching out to the same clients, creating confusion and overwhelming them with redundant information. This inefficiency not only affected the company's image but also strained relationships with clients.

Moreover, I noticed some favoritism within the organization, which could be demotivating for those who felt overlooked. This led to a sense of inequality and, at times, hindered professional growth opportunities for deserving individuals.

One significant drawback was the payment structure, which was slightly below average compared to similar positions in the industry. Although the company offered other perks and benefits, the compensation package left something to be desired.

Additionally, working at Robert Half requires a specific type of person to thrive long-term. The fast-paced and often demanding environment may not be suitable for everyone, and those who struggle to adapt may find it challenging to stay motivated in the long run.

In conclusion, Robert Half can be a good place to work, but it heavily depends on the management and department you find yourself in. My personal experience was marred by issues of redundancy, favoritism, and subpar compensation. For prospective employees, I recommend carefully assessing the team dynamics and managerial style before committing to a long-term career at the company.

The typical day is to check the priority of work duties.

Start on the most time pressured job and multitask on work which requires time to come back to you with information. Then work on routine tasks. 

For AP postings, seek authorisation, postings in QuickBooks, contacting vendors and clients for payment's and reconciliation of vendor statements, bank and visa statement reconciliations.

For AR and Billing postings, preparation of billing summaries for projects and invoicing, analyse aged debtors listing, reconcile sales ledger statements and AR collection. 

Intermediate accounting posting involves both AP and AR procedures and ad hoc projects such as preparation of budgetary reports, audit checks on receipts, grants and donation and reconciliation, assistance with compiling and checking all are in order for audit purposes. 

Other duties in general include cashier duties, petty cash reconciliation and bank runs.

Worked with intercompany transactions including a non profit audited organisation. Also to work with stringent protocols and suggestions in improving them to achieve efficiency and accuracy.

Even though the co workers are working mostly independently within the department, the result of one's work is often a continuation for the others so it is important to check and make sure that the combined effort is optimised and satisfactory.

I was at a position for over 3 weeks with great reviews then one lady came back from holidays and within 1 hour I was horrible, how can you go from great to bad in 1 hour because one person comes back from holidays, and rather than take the 3 weeks prior great results and reports, they took the side of the company, did not stand by me what so ever.

Another one I was supposed to go to for 6mnths and I even turned down another job for it, fell through because they did not keep in contact with the company in Calgary rather than the one in Toronto because the one in Calgary had already hired someone for the position, I showed up the first day of work and no one knew who I was and what I was supposed to be doing there.

Not only cost me 6mnths worth of pay but another position.

I have been working since I was 12yrs and have NEVER been fired or had a bad review.

Then they told me that they were in the business to make money, not promote that it was up to the individual to promote, I mean holy the whole reason in going to these type of companies is for them to promote you and your experiences.

I also kept telling them I am not an accountant in anyway yet they kept putting me forth for those positions and of course I was never chosen for them....cause gheesh I AM NOT AN ACCOUNTANT, then they said that was my fault...like holy again, I never said I was.

I just found that they do not stand by the people they put out there and I find that very sad, even the Gov and their issues stood by me more.

I would never recommend anyone to these people.

Doing AP, I processed their invoices to the client.  They earn almost as much as the person doing the work.  As a result, they want you to stay on the job no matter how bad the job is. Complain and you will be replaced.

Reps come and go.  Was initially interviewed by several individuals.  Kept getting calls from still more reps.  Was called by a woman I had not met and told of a temporary opportunity with a major company.  When I asked if the job had ft potential, her response was "the job is yours to lose"  Not exactly a resounding endorsement.

I went to the interview anyway and was hired on the spot.

Job had no training and got no assistance from beleaguered coworkers who were also mistreated.  Figured out the gist of the job on my own but if made a minor error would be taken to task by manager in front of rest of employees. Constant contradictory orders and as a temp would get in trouble if I overstepped chain of command.  "You shouldn't be talking to them"

Woman who referred me to the job was no longer with agency.  New 'contact' didn't care when I voiced my concerns. All I was ever asked about was how busy we were (chance to up their commission by putting more people in there)  Knew if I complained would be replaced. Quit - life is too short!.

Advice:  avoid this agency.  They don't care about you.  If it takes longer, better to get a survival job and keep looking for a job on your own , work hard and make the job yours.

In my role as an Accounting Clerk at Robert Half Finance and Accounting, I primarily worked on a long-term work assignment at Amovo Workplace Environments after which I had the opportunity to transfer to Amovo Inc. on a full time basis.

In my role as an Accounting Clerk, I had performed successful creations of quotes as per client design approval and converted these quotes into purchase orders to be transmitted electronically to vendors.

I have meticulously verified product details on purchase orders by cross checking vendor product acknowledgements with the generated sales orders. Subsequently reported major discrepancies to vendors. Subsequently, coordinated shipment information between sales and production ensuring adherence to deadlines on major client projects namely various Ministries and law firms

In addition, I have Independently managed company payables, receivables, supplies and overall cash flow for daily operating activities.

Working as a temp.  I'm supposed to be hired within a week or so but no guarantees.  Wages with this agency were lower than other temp agencies but they DO seem more interested in how things are working out for me.  They had been following up weekly to see how things were going, but now (about 5 3/4 months on the job) I haven't heard from them for a few weeks.
Benefits are available, but one would probably do better to buy one's own insurance.  Vacation - hardly worth bothering.  You don't begin accruing vacation until you've worked about 6 1/2 months full-time, and then only 1 week per year.  But this is pretty much the norm for a temp.
In short - Aerotek paid more and offered more in benefits, but their follow-through and customer service toward their talent just isn't there.  Benefits vary depending upon the assignment.  Rbt Half has better service and support, but pay and benefits are quite poor.
