SIMCOE MUSKOKA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

I pick up work at various Catholic schools from Barrie to Bradford to Colgan, also includes Alliston and Tottenham. The shift can vary from 2 hours to 8 hours. You get a specified area in each school and you clean classrooms, washrooms, offices, gyms, daycare rooms and hall ways. I get to meet different staff at each school and learn from each chief and other custodian at each school. I quite enjoy the variety. The work culture is great as everyone wants to help the new person out. Their is a high demand for supply custodians. The hardest part is some days you have nothing and other days you have to turn down work as you can only work at 2 schools. 
I enjoy travelling around as I get to meet a whole bunch of people as well as see all the schools.

SMCDSB is a fantastic employer!  Being a supply, I get to travel from school to school within the Board and no 2 days are ever the same!  Every school is different so every experience is different.  Some staff enjoy having a supply in the office and make you feel welcome, while others are not as appreciative.  The hardest part of the job is not feeling welcome in a school, but I go in, do my best and hope the hard work gets noticed when a permanent position becomes available within the Board.  Despite that difficulty, I love meeting new staff members and all the students.  That makes every supply day an enjoyable one.

It is a privilege to work with the staff, community and most importantly the students.  A typical day, is actually not knowing what will enfold moment by moment....the grieving, excitements, and various challenges that each of the stakeholders bring to each day!  However demanding, the SMCDSB community comes together at all levels to support students, parents and staff.  It is an honour to be part of this compassionate and engaging organization.  
As a parent with 2 children that are finishing their SMCDSB journeys, I can honestly say there have been challenges and celebrations alike ~ enlightening journeys for both of my children.

As a parent with children attending SMCDSB schools and as an employee working at the Board's headquarters, I can truly say that this an excellent organization on all fronts.  SMCDSB has offered my daughters a diverse array of high-quality educational opportunities.  The schools are well resourced and the quality of the teaching staff is superb.  As an employee, the Board offers a fulfilling work environment and the opportunity to work with a highly motivated and engaged team of people.

The SMCDSB is a great place to work. Although I'm not an educator I still feel like an important piece of the education puzzle and that my work is valued. My colleagues are all fantastic, always supportive, patient, generous, and kind. I feel like I have a great work/life balance, and I know I'm lucky to be able to say that. I truly feel like my life changed when I started working here. It's hard to not appreciate the overwhelming goodness of the people who work here.

The SMCDSB provided an incredibly informative, professional and supportive environment for my Master's of Counselling Psychology Internship.  I supported students at the elementary and high school levels within the context of a counselling relationship.  There was an ongoing commitment to professional development and learning within the Board as a whole, in addition to excellent supervisory mentorship from those who supported me in my role.

I've been a supply EA with the board for a few years and I've always been welcomed in to any school I've worked in.  I don't have a problem getting enough hours, and my geographical area is smaller than most.  

The administration has always been very supportive, as well as other EAs and teachers.  

I feel that I earn a very competitive wage for the work I do.

Great school board, very supportive staff and there is always many different initiatives to learn and grow academically and socially. 
Working condition is always reviewed, safety rules are followed and we are always aware of new things coming to our board. The faith and our beliefs keep us striving to do our best and to help all around us in our communities. I am very proud to be a part of this great community!

I have worked for SMCDSB for more than 10 years and I feel very blessed to work in such an amazing organization with wonderful and dedicated professionals. Even though I am not an educator, it is nice to be part of the meaningful work done in our schools every day. It feels like being part of a larger family.
