This organization operates with antiquated processes and shows little interest in evolving. “That’s how we’ve always done it” is effectively the operating model, even when it creates inefficiency, rework, and unnecessary delay.

A major issue is the decision-making structure. The senior leadership team functions as a committee for virtually all decisions. Collaboration at the top can be healthy, but in this case it appears to be a substitute for clear ownership and timely execution. When everything requires full-group alignment, outcomes are predictable: slow movement, diluted decisions, inconsistent follow-through, and limited accountability. Even straightforward improvements can get trapped in cycles of discussion, revisiting, and deferring.

The organization also tends to promote long-tenured “lifers” into roles without the relevant experience, instead of bringing in subject matter experts who could modernize and strengthen the function. Tenure is treated as a qualification. Direct expertise and demonstrated capability in the role appear secondary. That approach reinforces an internal echo chamber and keeps the organization stuck in the past.

If you’re someone who will challenge outdated practices, introduce modern tools, or push for efficient, best-practice ways of working, expect resistance. In my experience, the organization would rather protect the status quo than support meaningful change. People who try to elevate the organization can quickly become unwelcome, not because the ideas lack merit, but because the culture isn’t receptive to hearing them.

Bottom line: this is not a place for people who value momentum, modern leadership, expertise, and continuous improvement. It’s a place where the SLT operates as a decision committee, tenure is prioritized over capability, and change is treated as a threat rather than a responsibility.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part is when you take individuals out, for their birthdays, Camping in Summer, tours ie Museums, libraries, outdoor events in Summer and Social Life travels ie Disney World and holidays outside the country. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The worst stressful part is when dealing with people with Behaviours and Mental Health issues or seeing the individuals with physical disabilities trying their best to communicate or do something and taking long to understand them. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very favourable and sometimes very busy but manageable. One must be able to work under pressure and tolerant of difficult individuals and situations. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
1. Starts with assisting an individual with a shower and assist with dressing if needed depending on individual. 
2. Serve breakfast or brunch depending on what time they woke up. Administer medication accordingly. 
3. Make bed and change bedding if wet and start laundry, when done fold and put away. 
4.  Sweep and mop floors, dusting. 
5.  Take out meat to thaw for dinner if there are no leftovers. 
6.  Depending on the program the individual attends,  outing or medical appointment, escort them.
7.  Any other duties as delegated by Supervisor. 
8.  Hang out with individual or do their grocery shopping. 
9.  If close to end of month, prepare Medical Administration Sheets for all individuals and place in their binders. 
10.  Give snacks in between. Meal preparation for dinner and serve dinner. Administer evening medications if needed with dinner.

While working here, management provides many wonderful, valuable workshops offered regularly to employees to improve job performance and education in various areas of our own lives as well as the individuals lives and disabilities that we are fortunate to work along side of.

 
Horrible organization to work for

They dismiss and fired people who were considered as “inconvenient” 

Even after 2 months of  connecting and getting the clients to trust and build rapport with you 

They fire you as they replace you with a  New Hire and say it's due to the 3 month probation period so they don't have to give you just cause 

No direction and no mileage paid or given throughout working days

Most likely to work inconsistent schedules

They hire and fire so often here 
The clients don't expect you to stay snd support them 

Traumatizing organization and hr staff
Communication is very poor from team leads, supervisors and managers to front line staff

You are always the last to know anything 

After that, I was brutally dismissed and got hurt mentally and emotionally by the actions of the management team

Could like to see more training and opportunity for minority in the office. More inclusive and team work. Provide more training and share work. Meaning I'll rotate the shifts and work so that every staff has an opportunity to experience working with individuals. More inclusiveness in the field and the office.  

Been employed for more than 5 years with this company. They give chances for development of employees if the employee shows interest. They have very good training and support for staff. Good scheduling and work life balance. One hard thing is they’re struggling to have weekend positions filled. It would be great to see those positions filled. If you like to help people and see them thrive in their lives when you can support them, then this is a good company to be a part of to do so. 

Great place to work in outreach. I worked with a verity of individuals with varying backgrounds. It was a lot to keep up with sometimes but my supervisors were always available for input and to help manage my caseload. 
Being flexible and adaptable is a huge asset for working here. Any skilled worker with those qualities could find themselves advancing in this company no problem. 

A few years ago when I joined, it was great workplace but unfortunately it is now being managed poorly and there is increasing frustration and lack of motivation. 

Since I started working in Skills I looked forward again to go back, house co workers have a good team work, management are nice to everyone they treat us equally with respect, very concern to the individual. They are considerate to their employees. During the pandemic they take care of their employees, and most to the individual.
