As a licensed healthcare professional and First Nations woman, I was excited to start at SCO and was told there would be good opportunities for advancement within the department I was working in (Health Transformation). The environment was incredibly toxic, especially for First Nations women. Expertise is devalued or ignored, the culture is extremely secretive with all information hoarded at senior leadership levels, and no progress was ever made on the work the department was supposed to be doing. Staff disappeared from the team constantly with no explanation of what happened to them or if they were okay. The leadership had no understanding of health or health care at all, which made the environment extremely stressful.  It reached a point were I was worried that my ethical obligations as a healthcare professional would be compromised, so I resigned. All of the qualified colleagues I had at the time did the same within the span of a few months. 

Review email, telephone, staff, review workplan(s), Justice/ Corrections files, Court dates, monitor progress with Diversions with Extra judicial Sanctions.

I have learned to listen n hear what staff are saying, what clients are saying,.

The difficult part of being a manager is staffing and their personal issues however, a s a experienced mental health counsellor and work ethic advocate, the staff always conform to suggestions.

All of my work has been enjoyable due to my need to learn and curiosity.

A typical workplace involved phoning potential sponsors for a fundraising golf tournament, updating information on Excel, typing solicitation letters, answering emails and collaborating with other employees on a fundraising project.
I learned to work with others on a project.
Management was friendly.
The workplace culture created a relaxed and collaborative environment. 
The hardest part of the job was phoning for sponsors.
Successfully getting and meeting sponsors was the most enjoyable part of the job.

Fair pay and good pension match

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor people management and hazy HR policy

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mentally stressful. Work-life balance non-existent

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Mental exhaustion because of the attitude and methods of the manager/director

Extremely high staff turnover rate. Highly stressful and chaotic work environment. Little communication between departments and management. Secretive culture, sketchy HR practices. 

This place is completely government funded and there is little accountability. They meet minimum govts requirements and leadership operates at an emotional level!

As much of the management are ex-employees of the provincial government, the organization is run a similar top down manner.

Fair amount of turnover in some positions - people just "disappear" with no explanation or communication and never heard from again.





opportunities if you are motivated and work well on your own, great opportunity to lead many first nation communities and develop relationships. unfortunately no leadership and poor structure

great place to work, nice co workers. they gave us free workshops as well. the hardest thing about this job is the time restrictions. I learned alot during workshops and on the job related to admin work

it was a great atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and supportive, i really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in working there
