It is next to impossible to get a raise at Stong's. It is a unionized workplace and raises are dependent on hours worked rather than on skill. People have been there for 20 years and get paid way more than they should be entitled to because they are lazier in general and very comfortable with their positions and not open to change. The younger newer workers get bossed around by the higher seniority employees and are overworked, and get no benefits unlike the senior employees. Work hours are also not guaranteed. You could work anywhere between 4 and 40 hours in a week with no stable patterns from week to week. Management listens well, but unfortunately due to strict union rules, there isn't a lot of wiggle room for a lot of things.

Genuinely nice, caring people work there though. Is perfect for students or as a first job. There is some room for advancement within the company and they love to promote from within (but these opportunities are very limited and don't come around often).

Working at stongs has led me to realize that it’s a great place to make new friends, the pay was alright, definitely not enough to live on in Vancouver Dunbar area but it was alright. The customers were annoying sometimes, the work hours were incredibly unpredictable and you have basically no idea when your working more than a week from now. The management was messy, the training was horrible and didn’t help much and if you’ve ever tried to call into the store and nobody picked up, it’s not because no ones there it’s because we “we’re not trained to answer the phone.” Your hours would vary every week, one day you might clock in at 4pm or you might clock in at 6am. It’s very sloppily run and almost no room for further promotions or raises. Very bad experience overall, would only recommend it if you absolutely need a job and this one is the only one available.

Worst Company I have ever worked for. 

- Poorly managed 
- Never appreciated employees or department managers
- Asked employees that had worked for the company for a number of years to take a pay cut and took away benefits to open a second location which continues to be poorly managed.
- Never gave department managers budgets which lead to the company going into the red, turning to the aquilini group for assistance running and operating the company
- Worked for the company for over a year and never received any benefits, had to harass HR for months to get MSP coverage 
- Underpaid and under appreciated for my hours worked running and managing my department
- Expected department managers to manage two Stong's locations without a pay raise (after promising to do so)
- Never praised by my improvements made to increase sales

Stong's offers a generally positive work environment with supportive management that listens to employee concerns, occasionally leading to improvements. However, the extreme fast-paced nature of the job (driven by demanding customers) sets it apart from other retail roles. Employees are often tasked with duties that would typically require two people and the equipment provided may be inadequate (for example as a tall person I requested a longer cleaning broom but was instead expected to bend down substantially to clean) Accommodations for physical tasks are minimal which may pose challenges for some. Although the wages don’t align with the company's high end market positioning, it remains a decent place to work for those who can manage the workload without requiring special accommodations.

If ever you get hired as part of the management of stongs, never ever accept a salary pay. Instead insist on the hourly pay. If you ever go on salary, they expect you to work more than 8hrs a day and your days off they call you to come to work. Weekly schedule of shifts is always subject to change and you dont have a life. They control you. The position for store manager at stongs is a risky position. No store manager last for more than 2 years. In my time, 2 store managers have been fired from work. I left stongs cuz the store manager that time treated me soo bad. He let me do things that i cant and always makes me feel guilty that i am part of management. I cant stand him at all.. Good thing he got fired few months after i quit.

Understaffed, under trained, high stress and more expectations then your job title is stated. The reviews on here I belief have been fabricated as this place is anything but a stop to your next job. The appearance from the outside looks put together but once you start working there you will see a different picture. Request of days off are frequently forgotten, posting of schedules are last minute. The environment is quite toxic with a an extremely high turn over, with the only people starting are staff that are bitter and stuck there due to high wages on old union contracts, most people are hired and unaware of there rights as a union member and the employer constantly has to be reminded.

This could be a very good job depending whether you are on the old contractor the new contract Northwoods is the best or to be in Dunbar's a little bit of a mess Wages are lesson what they should be for the industry they think they're in a competitive market but they're not as Baker and average salary should be $50000 a year and should come with some kind of benefit baggage there's not even a separation package with this company so be careful over although very very good place for somebody get skills and and and learn to grow people of use this that this way for years I would like to stay there but my wage was too low and I was promised things that never appeared or came about and I did a lot over time and then I got h*** for doing it because they were short staffed

Coworkers were great and made my experience at stong’s pleasurable. However, customers you dealt with made it hard for me to stay. Prices in the store are higher, so management expects you to give great customer service even if the customers are absolute nightmares. The job wasn’t hard, there was some days where you were expected to do a lot and it did get overwhelming, you’re expected to work really hard for the pay you get. It is union based so yes, you get fees deducted from your paycheck but you have easy access to your union rules so you can enforce them.

This company only cares about making money at the expense of its labour. Poorly managed and under appreciated. Management is quite unfriendly combined with extremely high turn over of staff you barely know anyone but the old staff that are just waiting to retire as it use to be good place to work usually staff are complaining or actively looking for work. You learn what not to do, and what you look forward too in your next job so many entry level jobs offer way more in benefits and accommodation of schedules for students the best part of working here is when you here someone found a new job and ultimately when you quit.

I enjoyed  every moment of working there.Honestly in work is important. The management of the shop was very strong and perfect. The work environment had very good culture, they were mostly friends and cooperated.
The hardest part was a time when performed poorly in doing something due to inexperience . The most enjoyable part was when  I did my duties well with strength and confidence and my bus tell me thanks.
