Supercuts

I was a receptionist at my local store starting October 2018. The first few weeks were perfectly fine! The stylists were overall friendly, the other receptionist (only one at the time I started working there) was also very friendly and taught me everything I needed to learn. 

Something I was not made aware of when working there is that the "boss" of the Supercuts in our district would watch employees over the cameras everyday and it was a majority of the day as well. If I was not standing up straight, my boss would call me and tell me to fix my posture. If I stood around for more than 5 minutes, my boss would call me and tell me that I "look lazy to the stylists" despite me finishing and cleaning almost everything by the first half of my already short shift. You are expected to do EVERYTHING for the hair stylists because they are "key assets" to the company and receptionists are below the stylists. 

The boss was extremely emotionally manipulative and abusive towards me and would pick on me for absolutely no reason. I had only called-in sick a couple times due to having strep throat and the flu. I had offered to come in even when I was sick because I wanted to help out. I went in, despite not even being able to speak, and my boss had the audacity to tell me to "speak up" when speaking to customers and to "fake it 'til you make it". 

The worst thing I believe my boss had done to me, which was completely strange and made me extremely self-conscious. I had been faxing a paper to my boss, and my boss had told me "thank you" for faxing the paper. In response I had said "yes, of course!". Immediately after hanging up my boss called me back and lectured me how it was unprofessional and that "the new generation's vernacular was improper". She had also told me that it was better for people her age to hear a younger person say "my pleasure" or "you're welcome". I had been trained in customer service for years prior to this job, and not once had I been lectured or reprimanded for using "of course" instead of "you're welcome". 

The night I was fired, I had severe family issues going on and I was late (for the first time) a couple days prior and I had to call in sick for an emergency. I had texted my boss for my schedule for the rest of the week and I was extremely apologetic for everything that was going on between my family and I. She had called me at around 9:00 PM and explained to me, in detail, how she knew I was not a good person and that she thinks the job was too difficult for someone like me. "I have hired over 100 people and I think I know when someone is a good fit, you are just not a good fit for us I think". There was no actual true reason for my firing, it was not because I had done something wrong during my job, but merely because I didn't fit in and I had a "poor track record" despite calling in sick a couple times, then being late for the first time a couple days before I was fired.

I have had multiple bosses prior to this place, and I had not been treated with nothing but respect and I received well-needed criticism. This was nothing like that, and I wish I could warn everyone before applying to this job. 

This job, as a receptionist, is degrading, embarrassing, and a joke. This is less than an entry-level job, you are expected to go above and beyond the actual job expectations. Every moment I worked there, I had fear instilled into me because of the constant harassment and bullying from my boss. Keep in mind that I had fixed computers for my boss and did other little things, but that was truly never enough for them. 

If you value your sanity and your self-confidence, do yourself a favor and pass this job.

I started at Supercuts straight out of beauty school. I worked at one of the busiest Supercuts in California. (Not joking..it has the top number of haircuts and sales).. So it was good to get a lot of experience very quickly. After a year, I needed more money, so I decided to tell my manager that I wanted to advance. I was thrown into opening and closing the salon without training. I had to do daily deposits at the bank, opening/closing, pay roll, scheduling, inventory, etc.. While my manager went on vacation, I was left alone to manage the salon, BEFORE I got any manager raise. And months later, I finally got my raise and i was shocked. 20 cents more an hour than someone who was just a stylist. Are you kidding me?! After being with the company for 3 years and meeting above and beyond my goals every month and not getting my raises on time and not getting any appreciation, i just left. Don't bother staying longer than a year. Get your experience and GET OUT! They really try to make you think you could make some decent money if you continue to make your goals and if you continue to work harder then you ever have in your life. It's a bunch of bull.. You will feel like a hair cutting machine and like you're working in a sweat shop. Find a real salon to work at where people respect you and your work!

Productive but compact workplace, alot of meetings held on new ways to generate sales strategies and clients. A typical day would be a steady stream of clients, organise any product deliveries that had been dropped off. Liase with head office and my Area Manager regarding meetings. I learned alot about Point of Sale, stock audits, health and safety, organising work and holiday rotas. The hardest part of the job was when team members had to take time off for sickness and I had to cover in their absence, after already completing a six day week. The most enjoyable part of the job was sorting out the mess the previous manageress had left and the social aspect of the job.

work is always available. a lot of on going training. i have learned so much from working at supercuts, i enjoyed my years of management and over 10 years as a stylist career. always busy and busy. wonderful customers and helpful team work. when you need a break and requested clients sitting and waiting for you and do not want to go to any one else but willing to wait as long as 2 and half hours just for you. you get hands on your job within days, actually in hours and you just become an expert as if you provide an excellent customer service all the clients are there just for you. good tips of-course.

Working in a very busy fast passed salon was great. I had clients coming out of my ears. Problem was we had no management. I worked for a corporate company and often my co-worker would decide not to show up for work so you were double booked and dealing with unhappy clients who waited beyond a reasonable time. I focused on my job at hand! Keeping the client in my chair happy and made great tips but poor wage. I maintained a clean and safe work STATION. However, the other stylist not so much. I was the only person to vacuum or take garbage out. "cleaning toilets wasn't in there job description" so I did. I can't expect a client to us a washroom that is unsanitary!

The pay was good, you got what you worked for. if you took in more clients you made more money. and you made good comission as well. the management was curupt and abusive in the salon i worked in. you have a probelm with someone you tell them, you dont ignore it and gosip behind their back and bring them down for things they havent done wrong just cuz you dont know how to bring up the actual person like a grown up.

it has more to do with the quantity than the quality, so it don't matter how good you are as a stylist,,its more of how much  product can you sell,and how many people can you do a day ,that's how you get hours there ,being good as a stylist  and being popular  with the clients is not that important to them.you can be a butcher and get better hours ,than being great,,true story

Very busy productive salon, continued training oppertunnities available. I gained further experience with gents cuts. Management can be very supportive. The team I work with are a fantastic group of individuals. The worst part of the job is having to work a Sunday as I don't have time to spend with my family. Most enjoyable part of my job are the huge range of customers I get to work with.

I enjoyed my time there. It was usually busy from open to close. I was able to meet lots of new people. Everyday there was the possibility to learn something new. I got along with the people I worked with. When there were no customers in, it gave time so clean shelves, and read about the products to stay well informed of the products, and to be able to answer questions about them.

Supercuts is an excellent stepping stone for apprenticeship and learning new systems.  Atmosphere is relaxed and easy going.  Most customers are friendly and easy to talk to.  Hours are flexible which is good given that various appointments can be scheduled.  Co-workers are easy to get along with and carry out shared responsibilities without hesitation.
