The Ballroom Bowl

Everyone who worked for The Ballroom that I worked with were great people. From work ethic, attitude, and appearance. The management were the real champions of this establishment. 
Many upper management decisions caused a mass exodus and it was the floor managers at the time that stopped that overflow from leaving indefinitely.
The Chefs were always great mentors and leaders, the cooks had great attitudes towards learning and maintaining their work stations.

If The Ballroom hadn't hired a consulting firm to drive everyone's abilities downwards and make the kitchen into a hostile environment through not having the patience to explain new methods, I would probably still be working part time there. I hope the workplace has rebounded and the business has expanded, there is a lot fun, good food and environment there for Canadians. It's a great place to meet people. Highly recommend.

I usually open so I come in at 9AM and get the whole establishment ready by 11AM by myself. The regular things like turning on lights, TVs, sound, setting up bars, bringing garbage bins inside, stuff like that needed to be done. Sometimes I get to work during our club nights (friday and saturday nights) and I have to get through a wall on people dancing while carrying a try of empty bottles/cups. Co-workers are very friendly, 90% of us got along. Most of the managers are very cool too, as a co-worker and as a friend. Hardest part of the job is there are times when the elevator breaks down and you have to carry heavy objects up the stairs from the basement. If you're lucky, you only had to go to the main floor. If not, the 2nd floor. The most enjoyable part of the job is the environment and the staff. They are amazing people.

Management was like a revolving door. 
There was a period where management was supportive and moral was up, but alas the door swung. Management wasn’t the most organized, communicating with them could be a headache, and that’s if you can find them (spend a lot of time running around the building looking for them).

Co-workers were typically great to work with, as we often had to lean on each other. Some have a better work ethic than others, but still good people. 

Tips… There was a point where everyone was asking about the tips, specifically for events, and management was not transparent. You also could work a 6hr shift and make nothing or next to nothing in tips. 





Firstly, oreientation is non existent, you are expected to come in and train with people who aren't even aware you'll be training with them. Once they throw you on the floor you'll be the only server until the next shift change. So suck it up if it gets busy! says the management. You'll work event shifts from time to time and will be compensated very little on your pay cheque. Your hours are also subject to change at anytime because of how fast the turn over rate is and how little management cares. Do yourself a favour and work else where. This company will not value you as a human being.

Old case, but I decided to bring it here.
I used to have compliments from bartenders because of my proactive attitude and always trying to help others, but always prioritizing my tasks. Later on, because of one situation with my responsible manager, my shift got cut and shorter, I asked for feedbacks and I have been told that my work just got worse even though I was doing the same thing as before and my other colleagues were saying the same, “ good organization and support, well done job” for my old colleagues and “bad job done” coming from my manager, without specification.

Management - Doesn't communicate well and most of the time falls flat in efforts to hold together during tough shifts. Will remove employees shifts without warning and simply leave them wasting away until they quit on their own.

Kitchen - Good people working thanklessly. Always feels understaffed and overworked. Hard to keep most people due to workload.

FoH - Most are forgettable. The ones who are good at their jobs usually move somewhere with more reward.

No to be trusted. They will give you false claims about working hard and taking care of you and just let you go without cause or reason. 

No organization, refuses to tackle real issues and maintains a BOOMER perspective on things. Also family owned so they do whatever they want without actually consulting they people who actually make their money.

Do not trust them.

I was really excited to start working here, but i felt every uncomfortable around the management, they did not make me feel welcome there. I kept asking for training and feedback, but felt ignored. Was talked down to far to many times by other staff who felt they had seniority. Not a pleasant expereince, i lasted maybe a month, maybe less i can't remeber. 

Loved working with everyone, (previous) management and staff. Was given a lot of trust and in our abilities. Built some amazing memories. Unfortunately, after some time, the business has completely changed and broke down what we had. Can’t speak positively about what it has come to be now. 

I was a hostess at The Ballroom, where I would greet customer upon arrival, booked and secured reservations along with keeping our guests happy and accommodating to their needs in the best way possible.
