Trade Secrets

Working at Trade Secrets really helped me sharpen my sales skills, and I sure learned a lot about hair products. I loved my coworkers, and the job itself was pleasant and not too demanding. We were given a lot of independence as it was a small store and did not require much staff. A regular day on the job was pretty standard for a retail store in a busy mall. We were encouraged to greet and make small talk with customers who wandered into the store. To inform them of current promotions, suggest products based on their hair type and answer their questions. I was given a key as soon as my probation period ended, and worked at two locations, closing at both. When I first started working at Trade Secrets, I noticed that the store had a history of a high turn-over rate after the 4 girls who were previously working there quit the job within the first week I was there,  which raised a little suspicion, but I was so focused on my own performance and doing the best job I could that I did not give it any serious thought. After working there for a while I began to notice that there was a serious communication barrier between management and staff. The manager was unable to confront us, in stead leaving us memos to read when she was not around. When I tried to speak about it, she would laugh and shy away. I began to feel nervous, as I am a very straight forward person and know that as a manager, being direct with your staff is a crucial part of running a store successfully. There was a lot of anticipation among the staff due to this. After a while, I began to worry about my job security. It was becoming clear that the store morale was low, and the dynamics were not healthy. There was also a lot of trash talking and gossip happening on the part of the management, e.g. about past employees, and even about customers who had just left the store, which I found extremely distasteful let alone unprofessional. It became clear that this was not the job for me. Or for anyone, if I'm to be honest. It was unfortunate as, overall, I did enjoy the job and working with my wonderful coworkers. I just did not agree with the store's values or the way that they perceive and treat their employees, and the way they do business.

Working at Trade Secrets for the time that I was there was a lot of fun.  It allowed me to utilize my customer service skills, and use my natural flare for beauty and fashion in assisting that the clients met their needs.  
It is always a pleasure to help someone achieve what they desire.  This industry is very challenging as there are is lot of competition, however I found that product knowledge and putting the clients needs first was what made me successful.  I also had the opportunity to use my business skills.  
I started as a part timer, then to full time, to 3rd key holder.  I participated in labeling of inventory, stock and shelving, advertising of in store promotions, daily paperwork and bank deposits.  
The hardest part of the job was meeting goals on a slow day, however that was a push to be motivated and perform better.  My manager was excellent at training and motivating, and ensured we functioned as a team. 
I left to due to unfortunate personal events that prevented me from working at the time.

A typical day at work is communicating with customers about different products in order to keep customers informed and happy about their purchases. I learned many sales and customer service skills related to my work that can be applied to many other occupations. The management is also very productive, encouraging, and stringent for their employees and customer satisfaction. I'm surrounded with co-workers that supported and have taught me very a many things about sales and have created a fun-loving environment where we can both be professional and enjoy our work hours at the same time. The hardest part of the job I would say is having to deal with difficult customers. Although, it may be a bit difficult, problems are always easily solved and customer satisfaction was always guaranteed! The most enjoyable part of the job is communicating with different customers and helping them find the best products for them.

DO NOT WORK HERE ! 
The management and Owner are extremely unprofessional and rude to their employees ... they do not trust their employees or loyal customers. 

They have made countless employees cry and quit within a couple of days because of their horrible, bullying attitude. They manipulate and talk so badly of other employees, past employees and even customers. It's a horrible environment ONLY because of the management and owner. The girls you work with are amazing and the customers are always nice and pleasant. 

The pay isn't worth it for the amount of trouble they give you and bonus gets cut all the time. Also hours aren't guaranteed and they will force you to quit instead of them firing you... they watch you on the cameras all the time which is a violation of privacy and just makes you feel uneasy all the time. 

Don't waste your time. Go somewhere else for a job.

-A typical day at work would be non-stop the same routine as usual
-What i have learned is customer service is a major priority in an industry like this.

-To manage the place even though your not a manager sets a major goal to others to respect and take you serious more.

-Your co-workers will always provide you the help you need and set each crew as a team, to help and observe off each other.

-The hardest part of having a job is complaints, and to maintain a better self paced calm level is to listen and communicate to give each customer what is needed.

-Most enjoyable part of the job is being friendly with the boss, staff, customers, to earn the respect that is needed, and to work hard to earn what you get, then at the end of the day everyone is satisfied which earns more tips!

Last but not least, to never bring outside social life problems into work enviornment

I spend a workday involved with all aspects of styling hair, including cutting, curling, straightening, dyeing and highlighting as well as creating updos for formal occasions.I ususualy arrive early every day and spend the entire workday styling hair for regular and walk-in clients. At first I consults with a client to determine the exact look that is wanted. Some clients may bring in photos of their desired look and it is up to the hairstylist to achieve the same look for them.I have learn different style of cutting as well as gainig more knowlede about coloring and highlighting etc.Not satisfied with the management though.All of my co-workers are very friendly and helpful.The most enjoyable part of the job is giving the exact look what my client wanted and hearing them appreciate my work. :)

the job was fun to do as I got the chance to meet new people, the coworkers were very nice and helpful as they introduced me to the job and my role in the store. The hardest part was keeping up with the heavy work load at the store and finishing all tasks within the time given, while  the most enjoyable part was to make new friends and see satisfied costumers saying "we will come again". I gained a better understanding on the whole process of sales and profit making the linkage between stores and how each is being managed as well as how to work in the cashier position and handling different types of costumers.

This was by far the worst job I've ever had.  The owner of the Ottawa locations is very sketchy and creepy, and has unrealistic expectations from employees (hence the high staff turnover rate).  

Immediately when starting the job, you are expected to make sales and get 'bonus' (similar to commission), and it makes for an extremely competitive and catty environment.  

The 'bonus' perk is a joke - it caps out at a certain amount and he can take it away if you do something he doesn't like (even something small).

Most of the girls I worked with were nice, but things could get ugly quickly because we were pressured so much by the owner to hit sales targets and to up-sell.

Would NEVER recommend working here, even if you're desperate.

A typical day at Trade secrets was fairly busy with a lot of clientele in the salon. I worked in retail and provided customers with knowledge and advice of hair products and appliances. I learned to work with money and book reservations, along with washing hair and doing laundry. The management was decent but needed work and my co-workers did not get along very well with each other. The hardest part about my job at Trade Secrets was learning how to deal with angry customers, however, throughout my training, I now know how to handle those situations in a calm and professional manner. The most enjoyable part about my job there was learning about all the new and different hair and make up products.

Catching customers attention
making sure displays are well designed, promotions can be seen, sale items are visible.
Main focus is making sale goals for each day or going over the sale goal, which is a bonus.
Work as a team to ensure that every customers need is met.
I have learned to be more patient with customers, take initiative, be more confident and I know how to win a sale with ease.
I loved interacting with people, learning new products and helping customers find what best suits there need. 
I loved making people happy and satisfied .
I enjoyed muti-tasking and being on point at the same time it helped me enhance my management skills.
