Trade Supervisor, Pipe Weld (Graveyard Shift)

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

The following schedule is available: Graveyard: 9:30 pm to 5:30 am (Sunday to Thursday)

About the Role

The Trade Supervisor, Pipe Weld (Graveyard Shift) is responsible for leading their team of pipe welders and weld helpers across multiple work fronts including fabrication shops, block assembly and onboard vessel welding activities. The Trade Supervisor will ensure weld readiness, quality of completed welds and that projects are completed efficiently, safely and in compliance with all regulations and company standards. The position reports directly to an Area Manager and requires significant interaction with Trade Management.

What you’ll do

Supervise welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, CuNi, duplex stainless, and other marine alloys. Ensure proper application of welding procedures including GTAW, SMAW, and FCAW processes.
Responsible for delivering product and customer quality standards. Assumes accountability for safety, cost, schedule and quality performance in area of responsibility.
Implements and carries out Seaspan's health, safety, environmental and quality processes on the shop floor and strives to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.
Leads team with schedule and priorities, assigning work to trade employees with the skill and ability to efficiently complete scheduled work.
Collaborates with management to establish daily and weekly goals and holds employees accountable for performance. Reports internally on work process and status to Area Managers.
Follows and implements the collective agreement and standard methodologies to lead trades employees efficiently. Responsible for discipline, including performance and attendance management.

What you’ll bring

Red Seal certification in welding.
A minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience in a heavy industrial environment, preferably unionized.
Minimum 5 years of pipe welding experience in a heavy industrial or shipbuilding environment.
Strong knowledge of marine piping systems from a welding perspective (materials, code requirements, weld sequencing)
Experience supporting modular/block shipbuilding and onboard welding execution
Familiarity with marine classification societies such as Lloyd’s Register, DNV, ABS, or equivalent
Strong understanding of QA/QC requirements, weld traceability, and NDT processes
Dedication to safety and quality, with experience in the application of behavioural based safety.
Strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
Time management and organization skills with a proven dedication to follow-up and follow-through.
Ability to empower others, lead change, have difficult conversations and coordinate discipline when required.

The estimated salary for this position is $115,000-$127,000 plus a shift premium for the graveyard shift. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
