The role is open to people in and around Calgary and Edmonton, AB, as the work is completed at job sites around these areas.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise all aspects of substation construction, maintenance, and commissioning activities on site, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Lead and mentor a team of technicians, electricians, and subcontractors, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and training.
Oversee daily site operations including equipment installation, cabling, grounding, switchgear, transformers, and control systems.
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, Alberta OHS regulations, and company safety policies; conduct regular safety meetings and hazard assessments.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to resolve technical issues and ensure design specifications are met.
Perform quality control inspections and testing of substation components to verify compliance with client and regulatory standards (e.g., AESO, AUC requirements).
Manage site documentation, daily reports, as-built drawings, and commissioning records.
Monitor project schedules, resource allocation, and material deliveries to proactively address delays.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and utility providers.
Participate in project planning, risk assessments, and post-project reviews.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

7+ years of progressive experience in electrical substation construction, maintenance, or operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
Strong technical knowledge of high-voltage substations (69kV to 240kV preferred), including transformers, circuit breakers, protection & control systems, and SCADA.
Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician ticket or equivalent Red Seal certification is highly preferred.
Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a construction or utility environment.
Thorough understanding of Alberta safety regulations (OHS Code), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and utility standards.
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record; willingness to travel to project sites in Alberta.
Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, or a related field is an asset.
Ability to work in outdoor conditions and at heights as required.
