Job Summary
Reporting to the Managing Partner, the Controllership position is a senior financial leader responsible for overseeing all payroll, accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Ideal for qualified applicants seeking a stable and smaller working environment, this role involves managing a small accounting team, maintaining robust internal controls and overseeing financial reporting and payroll processes as well as providing strategic financial insights to support the organization’s growth. The Controller will be a key liaison with external stakeholders, compliance authorities, auditors, banks, clients.

Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
Prepare and distribute monthly and annual financial statements, reconciliations and other internal management reports.
Complete and file HST/GST returns and oversee corporate tax compliance in collaboration with tax auditors.
Develop financial forecasts, and long-term financial strategies in collaboration with senior leadership to support company growth and profitability.
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimize financial resources.
Analyze financial trends and provide actionable insights to guide strategic decision-making.
Maintain and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Lead end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accurate weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing, statutory compliance, and strong internal controls.
Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, remittances, year-end reporting,
Support and guide Payroll Administrators, including assisting with processing as necessary.
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation, and supported client agreements.
Calculate internal staff commissions.
Coordinate with external auditors, providing supporting documentation and explanations of business processes.
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Supervise, train, and mentor the accounting/payroll team, fostering professional development and ensuring high performance.
Maintain and support accounting software systems (QuickBooks Online version), reporting tools and payroll programs (ADP WFN), leading upgrades or integrations as needed including general ledger interfaces between QB and ADP WFN.
Lead initiatives to optimize payroll and accounting processes through automation, system enhancements, or adoption of new processes and procedures.
Provide on-demand training to staff as required.
Serve as the point of contact for banking relationships, handling day-to-day inquiries, transaction issues, and payment processing.
Serve as the primary contact for ADP and employee benefit programs and group RRSP brokers, addressing payroll and employee inquiries.
Assist the Partners with ad hoc personal and business-related tasks, including managing and reviewing, separating business/personal transactions.
Liaise with operations, project teams, IT, and administration to ensure accurate job costing, financial process alignment, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

CPA Designation and/or PCP/CPM Designation.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 yrs in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, financial reporting.
Advanced working experience with Canadian payroll, statutory reporting and legislation.
Demonstrated experience and superior proficiency with QuickBooks Online and ADP Workforce Now
Superior knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, notably Microsoft Excel.
Very Strong Analytical skills.
Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a small office environment.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a smaller office environment and handle confidential information with discretion.
Experience with acquisitions and financial integration is an asset.
Strong administration and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interface with all levels of staff in a professional manner.

Work Location: In person, flexible from time to time as required.
Salary: $95,000 - $110,000
