Commercial Interior Designer / Furniture Specifier
Grande Prairie, Alberta | Full-time, Permanent
Most design positions ask you to create drawings.
We’re looking for someone who wants to help create better workplaces—and help shape the next stage of a growing company.
At Kit Office Plus, we design commercial environments that help businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, municipalities and Indigenous communities across Northern Alberta do their best work.

We’re building a team of professionals who take ownership, think critically, continually improve and genuinely care about helping customers succeed.
If you’re looking for a career where you’ll be trusted with meaningful responsibility, encouraged to make thoughtful decisions and given an opportunity to grow with the company, keep reading.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is much more than a drafting or quoting position.
As our Commercial Interior Designer / Furniture Specifier, you’ll become the technical expert behind our workplace solutions.
Working alongside our Sales Team, you’ll transform customer requirements, measurements, drawings and project information into practical workplace layouts, accurate furniture specifications, professional quotations and clear presentation packages.
Our Sales Team will maintain the customer relationship. Your role is to support them behind the scenes by developing accurate, functional and visually compelling solutions that help customers make confident decisions.
Your work will help our customers create better workplaces, allow our Sales Team to spend more time building relationships and contribute directly to the continued growth of Kit Office Plus.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design practical commercial workplace layouts and furniture solutions.
- Prepare accurate furniture specifications and professional quotations.
- Create 2D layouts and 3D visualizations that clearly show customers what they are purchasing.
- Work with programs such as CET, 2020 Giza, Visual Impression, AutoCAD and related design software.
- Research products and communicate with leading North American furniture manufacturers.
- Verify product dimensions, finishes, specifications and compatibility.
- Recommend furniture systems and layouts based on functionality, durability, workflow, appearance and budget.
- Estimate installation requirements and identify potential project complications.
- Review project information, recognize missing details and ask the right questions before beginning a design.
- Support our Sales Team by developing thoughtful, technically accurate workplace solutions.
- Continue building your knowledge of workplace planning, ergonomics and commercial furniture systems.
- Help improve the systems and processes used to manage furniture projects.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re interested in finding the right person—not simply the applicant with the most years of experience.
You may be an experienced commercial designer looking for a new challenge, or someone earlier in your career with strong technical ability and exceptional potential.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
- Enjoy solving complex problems and developing practical solutions.
- Take ownership instead of waiting to be told every step.
- Have high personal standards and exceptional attention to detail.
- Think about functionality, durability, efficiency and cost—not simply what looks impressive.
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Work well as part of a team and support the people around you.
- Recognize when important information is missing and ask good questions.
- Follow through and take pride in producing clean, accurate work.
- Want to continually improve your technical knowledge and the way work is completed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education or experience in Interior Design, Interior Design Technology, Architectural Technology, CAD Technology or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with CET, AutoCAD, 2020 Giza, Visual Impression or comparable design software is an asset.
- Commercial furniture experience is an asset but is not required.
- The ability to interpret architectural drawings, measurements and project requirements is an asset.
- Strong computer, written communication and organizational skills are important.
- You must be able to work in person at our Grande Prairie location.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Salary of $50,000–$60,000 per year, depending on experience and ability.
- Paid manufacturer and professional training.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Paid time off.
- Casual dress.
- Free on-site parking.
- Employee store discount.
- Meaningful commercial projects throughout Northern Alberta.
- An opportunity to become a trusted technical expert within the company.
- A workplace where strong ideas and thoughtful improvements are welcomed.
- Long-term growth opportunities based on your abilities, interests and performance.
OUR WORKING PHILOSOPHY
We believe the people doing the work are often best positioned to improve it.
If you discover a better way to serve customers, improve quality, eliminate unnecessary work or strengthen the company, we want to hear it.
We trust our team members to think, make responsible decisions and challenge assumptions respectfully. In return, we expect those decisions to be guided by two questions:
“What is best for the customer, and what is best for the long-term success of Kit Office Plus?”
We aren’t looking for someone who simply completes assigned tasks. We’re looking for a professional who wants to take ownership of their work and help us continually improve.
THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE FOR YOU IF
- You want a position where every decision is made for you.
- You’re uncomfortable with accountability, change or continuous improvement.
- You prefer repetitive work that requires little independent thinking.
- You’re satisfied with work that is “good enough.”
- You want a job with limited responsibility or opportunity for growth.
