Position Overview
The Service Technician is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and supporting a wide range of security and life-safety systems. This role works closely with the Service Manager to complete daily service tasks while providing technical expertise, mentorship, and support to field staff and end users.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, organized, and comfortable working independently in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security Systems Service (Primary Function)
- Perform service, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades on security and life-safety systems
- Support both current and end-of-life (EOL) products and platforms
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues
- Perform software recoveries, upgrades, and system conversions
- Install and support server/client software associated with security platforms
- Service and Maintenance:
- Intrusion detection systems
- Access control systems
- ULC fire monitoring systems
- Intercom and duress systems
- Complete ULC inspections for fire monitoring and monitored intrusion systems
- Provide technical support to end users and internal field staff
- Prepare clear, accurate service documentation and reports for management and compliance
Technical and Systems Knowledge
- Strong troubleshooting capability across software, hardware, and network-related issues
- Experience with system firmware updates and security patches
- Familiarity with computer hardware repair and operating system support
- Sound understanding of low-voltage and electronic systems
- Working knowledge of computer networking and IT fundamentals
Leadership and Collaboration
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, team members, and management
- Effectively manage multiple service jobs simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant service technician experience or experience in a related field
- Knowledge of:
- Low-voltage wiring and electronics
- Computer networking and IT concepts
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of installation of CCTV, Card Access, Intercom and Intrusion systems.
- Experience or certifications with the following systems is an asset:
- C-Cure 9000
- Genetec Security Center
- Avigilon ACC/ACM
- Bosch Intrusion
- Keyscan Aurora
- Kantech Corporate/ Global
- Commend
- Milestone
- ExacqVision
- March Networks
- WHIMIS
- Comfortable working at heights
- Boom/ Scissor Lift experience is an asset
- Fluent in English (verbal and written)
- Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass government security clearances and criminal background checks
