Job Summary

The Scale Operator is responsible for completing all administrative tasks around loading truck trailers including answering phones, booking trucks, signing visitors in and out and operating the scale monitor and watching security cameras around the loadout area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Review, understand and follow all SOPs related to the work area.
Responsible for accurately loading truck trailers to their legal road weight capacity.
Liaise with drivers, loader operators regarding load out, product and salt temperature.
Book trucks into the schedule.
Operate scale equipment in the load out area including but not limited to scale ticket monitor, printer, computer and cameras.
Ensure data entry and paperwork is completed accurately. Distributes paperwork as required.
Answer phones and responding to questions as required.
Complete salt samples as required.
Monitor visitor log and ensure visitors sign in and out.
Complete end of day inspections including ensuring hoppers, hopper pits and augers are empty.
Ensure yard, load out areas and facilities are kept clean and in good condition including roadways, washroom, kitchen, locker room, exits, lighting, etc.
Complete equipment checklists, inspections and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) as required.
Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the Superintendent or Plant Manager.
Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings or investigations as required.
Complete safety and equipment training/retraining as required.
Use all required safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Other duties as assigned such housekeeping tasks and etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Completion of a Business Administration certificate with 1 year of experience working in a site office environment. An equivalent level of education and experience would be considered.
Organized with high attention to detail.
Ability to work in a site office environment.
Ability to walk around site in all seasons.
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

Manual labour is required.
Working outdoors is required year round.
PPE is required to be worn at all times when working on site.
Site consists of variations in temperature and noise levels.
Sensory attention/mental stress can be quite high during high production periods.
