ABOUT PRAIRIE HVAC/R

Prairie HVAC/R is a well-established Winnipeg-based company recently acquired by IR Pros, a growing organization expanding its footprint across Canada with Winnipeg serving as its Canadian headquarters. Despite the growth, Prairie HVAC/R has maintained a close-knit, family-oriented culture where employees are valued individuals, not just numbers. This is a hands-on, collaborative environment that expects the same spirit from everyone on the team.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Prairie HVAC/R integrates into IR Pros' broader operations, we are looking for an Accounting Manager to take ownership of the Canadian finance function day to day. This person will work independently with minimal oversight, reporting to the CFO at IR Pros, and will currently have one direct report (an Office Administrator). As the Canadian operation grows, there is a genuine opportunity for this role to expand into building and leading a larger accounting team.

This role requires someone who can hold their own under corporate scrutiny: proactive, competent, efficient and confident operating with a high degree of autonomy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain accurate financial records.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing.
Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss reports.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Code invoices and ensure payments are charged to the correct accounts.
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
Reconcile bank accounts, deposits, payroll accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
Assist with customer account follow-up and collections.
Help prepare tax forms and required financial documentation.
Assist with audits by gathering reports, account information, and supporting documents.
Work with department managers and leadership to provide financial information and support cost-control efforts.
Maintain knowledge of accounting practices, company procedures, and accounting software systems.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Requirements

Post-secondary education, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
3-4+ years of related accounting experience.
Leadership experience is a must.
Experience in HVAC, industrial refrigeration, construction, mechanical services, job costing, or project-based accounting is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of general accounting and cost accounting.
Understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience with accounting software.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or with a team.
An upbeat, team-first attitude.
Strong knowledge of Canadian and Manitoba tax legislation as it relates to business operations, including GST, PST, payroll remittances, and regulatory compliance
