Rail & River Steak House is a locally owned upscale casual restaurant located in the heart of historic Fort Langley. We pride ourselves on exceptional hospitality, premium steaks, fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and an award-worthy guest experience. Our team believes in professionalism, creativity, and creating a positive workplace where people enjoy coming to work.

We’re looking for an experienced, passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen and continue elevating our culinary program.

The Opportunity

As Head Chef, you will oversee all aspects of kitchen operations while leading by example. You’ll inspire your team, maintain exceptional food quality, control costs, and work closely with ownership to create memorable dining experiences.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys developing people as much as creating outstanding food. Head chefs are typically responsible for menu development, kitchen leadership, food quality, staffing, budgeting, and ensuring consistent execution.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the kitchen team

Maintain exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation

Oversee daily kitchen operations and service execution

Develop seasonal features and menu enhancements

Manage food, labour, and operating costs

Order inventory and maintain supplier relationships

Ensure proper inventory controls and minimize waste

Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate kitchen staff

Maintain Fraser Health food safety standards and sanitation procedures

Ensure recipes, portions, and plating standards are consistently followed

Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable team culture

Collaborate with front-of-house leadership to deliver an exceptional guest experience

Qualifications

5+ years of leadership experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, or Senior Sous Chef

Strong knowledge of steakhouse and seafood cuisine

Proven experience managing food and labour costs

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to remain calm under pressure during busy services

Passion for coaching and developing team members

Strong understanding of food safety and HACCP practices

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
