Mechanical Designer / Project Manager
Conovey (Three O Four Limited), Milton, Ontario
Full time, on site
About Conovey
Conovey is a family-run engineering and manufacturing company based in Milton, Ontario. We design and build custom conveyor systems, sanitary stainless steel equipment, and spiral freezers and coolers for food processors across North America. Our team of approximately 25 people operates out of a 35,000 square foot automated shop, and every piece of equipment we ship is designed in house. Nothing we build is off the shelf.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer who can also manage projects from start to finish. In this role, you will take equipment from concept through detailed design in SolidWorks, release drawings and bills of material to our shop, and remain responsible for the job through fabrication, assembly, factory acceptance testing, and shipment. You will work closely with our Engineering Manager, our shop floor, and our customers.
This is a hands-on position in a small, capable company. Your designs will be built fifty feet from your desk, and you will see the results of your work every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Design custom conveyors and process equipment in SolidWorks, from initial layout through detailed parts, assemblies, and drawings
- Produce complete fabrication packages and bills of material for release to the shop
- Manage assigned projects, including schedules, purchased components, customer approvals, and open issues
- Support the shop during build and participate in factory acceptance testing
- Prepare approval drawings and coordinate site requirements with customers
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal staff throughout each project
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong working proficiency in SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, drawings, and the management of larger models. This is essential to the role.
- Post-secondary education in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated experience designing fabricated equipment or machinery
- Proven ability to manage a project independently, including scheduling, follow-up, and clear communication
- A practical design sense and a willingness to work directly with fabricators and assemblers
- Strong attention to detail in drawings, tolerances, and documentation
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing conveyors or material handling equipment
- Experience in the food processing industry, including sanitary and washdown design standards
- Familiarity with stainless steel fabrication
Experience with conveyors and food industry equipment is a definite asset, but it is not an absolute requirement. We are prepared to train the right candidate in sanitary design, washdown standards, and the specifics of our equipment. What matters most is strong design ability, ownership of your work, and the capacity to learn quickly.
