Deliverables
- Build and grow the standards and documentation our drafting team relies on, filling in real technical detail as the subject-matter expert on the ground
- Take pride in the quality of grading plans, municipal servicing plans, SWM facilities, and sub-division layouts moving through the team
- Reduce internal revisions by teaching and coaching junior and intermediate drafters in a way that's clear, repeatable, and respectful
- Coordinate team workload and scheduling so deadlines are met without relying on overtime
- Partner with our internal database/AI builder to create new tools that make the team more effective
- Grow into increasingly complex and higher-profile municipal projects as your track record and the team's capability develop
Expectations
At 90 days
You're spending less than half your time on your own personal design work, and using the rest to start improving how the team produces — growing our documentation, answering technical questions clearly, and laying the foundation for repeatable training.
At 6 months
You're seeing the team's first-submission quality climb — work is passing review the first time more often than not — and our documentation system keeps growing under your direction.
At 12 months
You've helped bring our core workflows to a fully documented state, you're collaborating on new tools with our internal build team, and the time it takes to complete a standard deliverable is trending toward our internal targets.
Requirements
- A genuine track record of leading or managing a team — this role is about growing people, not just producing drawings
- Comfortable teaching others without making them feel small for not knowing something yet
- Able to see problems coming and communicate proactively, rather than letting deadlines slip quietly
- Energized by building something that doesn't fully exist yet, rather than maintaining a finished system
- 7+ years of experience in municipal grading and/or servicing design
- Strong working fluency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Working familiarity with OPSD and MTO standards
- Hands-on experience laying out septic systems, commercial/industrial sites with LID, sub-divisions, and stormwater ponds
- Strong professional English, written and verbal
- Valid G driver's license and personal vehicle, with willingness to travel to project sites
- Physically able to conduct field visits and inspections
Compensation
This role's starting compensation range is $105,000–$140,000 CAD per year. We use a structured pay progression rather than a single flat number: your compensation grows as you take on more and demonstrate it consistently over time, rather than being offered in advance of that growth. Where you land in the range at hire depends on your experience and demonstrated proficiency.
Who You'll Work With
You'll report to the Principal Engineer and work closely with multiple peers, junior and intermediate drafters, and our in-house field crew. King EPCM is a small, tight-knit firm — you'll have direct visibility into how your work affects the whole business, not just your part of it.
