COMMUNITY YOUTH WORKER(S)

Multiple Positions Available-Full-time, Part-time, Casual

About the position:

McMan’s Ninanaskomon Program is seeking passionate and experienced Community Youth Worker(S) to join our team supporting Indigenous children, youth, and families within Enoch Cree Nation, Paul First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Alexander First Nation, and surrounding communities.

In this rewarding role, you will build meaningful relationships with youth and support them in developing the skills, confidence, and connections needed to achieve their goals and thrive within their communities. Using a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach, you will provide mentorship, advocacy, case management, and individualized support tailored to each youth’s unique needs, interests, and aspirations.

The successful candidate will have experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous communities, and a strong understanding of adolescent development, family dynamics, mental health, and trauma-informed practice. You will work collaboratively with youth, families, caregivers, schools, and community partners to create opportunities for growth, learning, and positive engagement.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing individualized service plans, facilitating life skills development, coordinating recreational, educational, cultural, and community-based activities, and supporting youth in achieving their personal, social, educational, and developmental goals. Through mentorship, encouragement, and meaningful connections to culture and community, you will play a key role in fostering resilience, well-being, and positive outcomes for Indigenous youth.

This position requires regular travel to partner communities and service areas, including driving long distances and working in a variety of community-based settings.

Hours: A Variety of positions available: Casual, Part-Time (22Hrs/week), Full time (40 hours/week) (flexibility required and willingness to work evenings and weekends to accommodate youth/family’s schedule.

Location: Enoch Cree Nation, Paul First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Alexander First Nation, and surrounding communities.

What you’ll do:

· Support youth in developing a range of healthy individual coping and problem-solving skills

· Promote community inclusion by engaging and supporting the youth with their interests

· Effectively support and counsel youth, utilizing strong observational and listening skills

· Provide youth with information, guidance and resources on how to access and use various support networks

· Demonstrate a wide range of skills and knowledge of intervention resources and methods.

· Ability to engage youth creatively through innovative and culturally respectful approaches.

· Comfortable and willing to drive regularly to Indigenous Nations.

What you bring:

· Completion of a Degree/Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology

· Equivalencies may be considered

· Please note that applicants with a degree or diploma in Social Work from a university accredited by the Alberta College of Social Workers are required to be registered with the College (RSW) before starting or obtaining registration within three months of hire.

· Six months of directly related experience in family/youth work

· Police Information Check; including the Vulnerable Persons Sector Check (from within the last 6 months)

· Children Services Intervention Record Check (from within the last 6 months)

· Current Emergency First Aid-Level C CPR + AED

· Class 5 driver’s license, current driver’s abstract, reliable vehicle, $2 Million auto insurance and comfort with driving to various locations are required. Three years’ driving experience with a valid class 5 license is an asset.

· Organizational skills and ability to prioritize

· Strong counseling, mediation, crisis intervention, program planning and communication skills

· Excellent knowledge of the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act
