Program Coordinator for Métis (Michif) Programs

The Program Coordinator for Métis Programs plays a key role in overseeing culturally centered services and programming designed to support Métis (Michif) youth and community members. This role involves managing the daily operations, ensuring quality standards, and upholding the cultural relevance and integrity of all programs. The Program Coordinator provides guidance and support to program staff, collaborates with community partners, and ensures program goals align with the values and needs of the Métis community. The ideal candidate combines leadership and organizational skills with a deep commitment to Métis cultural values and youth development.

Responsibilities:

Program Oversight: Responsible to oversee the daily operations of Métis-specific programs, ensuring alignment with cultural values, goals, and program objectives.
Quality Assurance: Evaluate and enhance program policies, developing strategies for continuous improvement to meet quality and cultural standards.
Staff Supervision and Support: Provide consistent supervision, scheduling, and performance evaluations for program staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Cultural Relevance and Engagement: Ensure that programs are culturally informed and relevant, working closely with Elders, cultural advisors, and community members to maintain Métis identity within program delivery.
Community and Family Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies, local organizations, and Métis families to ensure a network of support and holistic care.
Staff Training and Development: Identify professional development needs, provide training on cultural safety and trauma-informed practices, and facilitate ongoing learning opportunities for program staff.
Financial Oversight: Assist in preparing and managing the program’s budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet program goals.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure that the program environment meets safety, cleanliness, and security standards, maintaining compliance with all licensing and regulatory requirements.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation related to program outcomes, budgets, and activities, and provide regular reports to senior management.
Direct Support as Needed: Step into program roles as needed, providing direct support to youth and families to maintain continuity and stability within the program.
Community Events and Outreach: Actively participate in and facilitate community events, cultural gatherings, and outreach activities to foster a strong connection between the program and the broader Métis community.

Characteristics:

Cultural Competency and Commitment: Strong knowledge of Métis culture, history, and values, with a dedication to decolonial, culturally safe practices.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities, with a talent for building positive relationships with staff, youth, and community members.
Continuous Improvement: A proactive approach to quality care and program development, with a focus on improving service delivery and meeting community needs.
Professional Growth: A commitment to ongoing professional development and growth, particularly in areas of trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, and youth development.

Qualifications/Training:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, Counseling, etc.) or at least 2 years of experience in a similar role supporting Indigenous or specialized community services.
Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Trauma-Informed Practice, Cultural Safety, and Naloxone Administration.
Standard First Aid, CPR, AED, WHMIS, and Food Safe certification.
Experience in budget management, program evaluation, and documentation.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Criminal Record Check, MCFD Prior Contact Check, and Privacy Training.
