Full job description

The Role

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and bid submissions by reviewing project documents, performing quantity takeoffs, obtaining pricing, and supporting project planning activities.

Responsibilities

Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents.
Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
Solicit and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
Develop labour, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing.
Prepare bid submissions using estimating software.
Identify project assumptions, risks, and exclusions.
Coordinate bonding, insurance, and prequalification requirements.
Support procurement activities and material purchasing.
Participate in project handoff meetings for successful bids.
Work closely with project managers and field personnel to ensure estimates reflect practical construction methods.
Assist with project scheduling and planning activities.

Qualifications

Experience in construction estimating, project coordination, project management, or a related role.
Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, or similar estimating software is considered an asset.
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of heavy civil construction.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
