Full job description

At Song of Stars, we believe that every person carries a unique creative voice within them. Our mission is to help students discover that voice, develop their musical gifts, and gain the confidence to share them with the world.

We are currently seeking passionate, inspiring, and experienced music coaches to join our growing Vancouver team.

This is a part-time independent contractor position (1-3 days a week) and Coaches can expect an initially smaller schedule that expands significantly throughout September and the school year. Most teaching days average 6+ teaching hours.

At the moment, we have a small roster of drum students on Mondays that we’re looking for a new coach to take over starting as soon as July 20th.

Beyond that, we’re always looking for new coaches to our team, especially as we head into the fall season.

Voice
Guitar
Piano
Drums
Songwriting
Ukulele
Music Production
Performance Coaching

While candidates who teach multiple disciplines will be given strong consideration, we encourage passionate and exceptional educators to apply even if they do not teach all of the above.

About the Role:

At Song of Stars, we don't simply teach instruments, we help students grow as musicians, artists, and creative individuals.

As a Song of Stars Coach, you'll play an important role in cultivating a positive, encouraging, and empowering environment where students of all ages can thrive. We value instructors who bring their own personality, experience, and teaching style while aligning with our shared commitment to creativity, excellence, and personal expression.

Our coaches help students:

Develop strong musical foundations and technical skills
Discover and refine their unique artistic voice
Build confidence through encouragement and achievable goals
Explore the music they genuinely connect with
Grow in creativity, musicianship, and performance ability
Experience meaningful opportunities to share their work through showcases, recordings, and performances

Most of our instructors teach a blend of disciplines. For example, a coach whose primary focus is voice may also teach songwriting, piano, or guitar. This integrated approach allows students to develop as well-rounded musicians and creators.

Song of Stars believes that everyone has a unique song that lies within and we are committed to empowering people to express that creativity through music. We do this by fostering a culture of creativity, excellence and innovation. Our mission is to inspire students through qualifying personal expression, giving vision and encouragement. To provide instruction with practical tools (teaching methods / workshops) to grow musical expressions and to create and support outlets for students to share their music with others (i.e. Showcases, recording and other performing opportunities).

Qualifications:

Depending on the disciplines being taught, ideal candidates will possess many of the following:

Strong performance and instructional skills in discipline being taught
Songwriting experience and the ability to teach songwriting concepts (required for songwriting instruction)
Strong understanding of music theory and technique relevant to the subjects being taught
Experience performing live music
Experience with recording and production is an asset (required for music production instruction)
Ability to engage and inspire students of all ages and skill levels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time-management abilities
Team-oriented attitude with a genuine passion for the Song of Stars mission and culture
Ongoing interest in current music trends, industry developments, and music education practices
Formal music education is an asset
Ability to pass a criminal record check

Compensation:

This position is offered as an independent contractor role with ongoing roster growth opportunities.
