About Us:
PFM Construction is a construction firm experienced in excavation and civil contracting, specializing in underground utilities, site servicing, road building, and excavation. As we continue to grow, we are looking to add an experienced Civil Superintendent to our team. If you have a minimum of 10 years of civil experience working with water, sanitary, storm, hydro/telephone utilities, and are committed to high-quality workmanship, this could be a great opportunity for you to grow with us.

Job Description:
As a Civil Superintendent with PFM Construction, you will be responsible for the leading one or multiple job sites focussed on the installation of various types of underground utilities. You will ensure that all utilities are installed according to local and municipal specifications, at the correct grade and elevation. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong safety practices, and effective communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and direct construction projects, ensuring strict adherence to contract documents and PFM Construction's procedures.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols for all workers, including subcontractors, maintaining a safe and hazard-free work environment.
Complete all necessary reports, including daily journals, health and safety documentation, and maintenance records, according to reporting requirements (daily, weekly, etc.).
Coordinate day-to-day construction activities, including the management of construction crews, owned and rented equipment, material supply, and subcontractors.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to plan and implement construction schedules, confirming manpower, equipment, and subcontractor availability.

Skills & Attributes:

A minimum of 10 years of experience in civil utility construction, with specialized knowledge in deep sewer work.
Strong understanding of contracts, with the ability to identify and manage work outside of the project scope.
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, working well under pressure and meeting deadlines.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
A proven track record of safety with a comprehensive understanding of occupational hazards and safe working practices around live utilities and sloped terrain.
Proficiency in trenching, shoring, trench box assembly, and safe excavation techniques.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in completing field paperwork and timesheets accurately.
In-depth knowledge of pipe gradients, materials, specifications, fitting, assembly, proper bedding, and backfill and compaction methods, as well as the protection of other services.
Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, project managers, internal teams, and subcontractors.
Comprehensive knowledge of MMCD and OH&S regulations, along with a solid understanding of construction materials and methods.
Commitment to safety, quality, and achieving production goals.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with responsible stewardship of equipment and tools.
Strong desire to provide high-quality workmanship.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address issues proactively.
Willingness to work 5 to 6 days a week, 8+ hours per day, including extended hours as needed.
Ability to commute to various job site locations in the Lower Mainland.
