Transdev Canada is hiring an Power Systems Technician for our Brampton, Ontario location
Transdev Canada is actively seeking a Power Systems Technician to work on our Hazel McCallion light rail transit project. This role will involve working closely with the maintenance team to ensure that all power systems are operating safely and ready for daily service demands of this 24 hour per day, 7 day per week, 365 day per year operation.
- Conduct the maintenance of Traction Power Systems, Overhead Contact System (OCS), and AC power distribution systems supporting LRT operations and facilities.
- Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair OCS assets, including contact wire, messenger wire, droppers, steady arms, section insulators, switches, tensioning devices, poles, and support structures.
- Maintain or work with subcontractors on the maintenance of AC electrical systems within LRT facilities, including medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, panel boards, and building power systems.
- Ensure all power-related work is performed safely in accordance with lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety rules, arc flash requirements, and track access protocols.
- Work with supervisor to coordinate outages, power isolations, grounding, and energization activities with OCC, Operations, and other maintenance disciplines to support safe work execution and service continuity.
- Respond to power system failures, service disruptions, and emergency situations, directing field crews and contractors to restore systems efficiently and safely.
- Review maintenance records, inspection reports, test results, protection settings, and equipment manuals to support compliance and long-term asset management.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, and integration of new or upgraded power assets, including substations, OCS modifications, and facility electrical upgrades.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, risk assessments, and inspection checklists related to power systems.
- Support procurement activities as requested by supervisor, including defining technical requirements for tools, test equipment, spare parts, consumables, and contracted services.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory reviews related to electrical and power systems.
- May be required to be a certified member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Comply with company policies, provincial/federal regulations, electrical codes, and operational instructions.
- Perform other duties as reasonably requested by supervisor or management.

- You have an Ontario Certificate of Qualification – Electrician (309A or 442A) or Linesperson (434A or 207S) required.
- You have a diploma or certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems, or related discipline (preferred).
- You have completed electrical safety, arc flash awareness, high-voltage switching, and traction power/OCS training (preferred).
- You have a valid driver’s licence and ability to meet track-access and medical fitness requirements.
Work Experience Qualifications
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- 3+ years of experience in electrical maintenance, with direct experience in rail or transit power systems preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with traction power substations, DC power systems, OCS, and electrical distribution systems.
- Experience coordinating outages, isolations, lockout/tagout, and energized work in a live transit environment.
- Experience with MMIS/work order systems (e.g., Maximo) is an asset.
- Experience working in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions typical of LRT systems.
