ABOUT ARCWELL DEVELOPMENTS INC

Arcwell Developments is a modular housing company building turnkey homes for First Nations and Tribal communities across North America. Since launching in 2023, we've partnered with nations from Atlantic Canada to British Columbia, and are now expanding into the United States. We are growing rapidly through deep, long-term partnerships with the communities we serve.

THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT

This role serves as the financial engine room of Arcwell Developments. Reporting to senior leadership, the Staff Accountant keeps the books accurate, projects costed correctly, and the cash flow picture clear, so ownership can make informed decisions on a growing portfolio of modular construction projects.

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in managing financial records, ensuring accuracy in account reconciliation, and supporting various accounting functions. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work across diverse accounting software and contribute to the financial health of our organization. The successful applicant will have a solid foundation in bookkeeping and corporate finance, with proficiency across accounting platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-Day Accounting

Process accounts payable and receivable, including subcontractor invoices, supplier payments, and client billings
Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and petty cash
Maintain the general ledger in Xero and ensure transactions are coded accurately
Assist with HST/GST remittances, payroll coordination, and year-end working papers
Work closely with the company's external Controller on an ongoing basis

Project Accounting

Maintain accurate job cost records and assist with project budget tracking
Track committed costs against budgets and flag variances to project managers
Support purchase order processing and procurement coordination

Reporting & Cash Flow

Prepare and maintain weekly cash flow summaries for ownership review
Produce monthly financial reports and project profitability summaries
Assist with year-end audit preparation and external accountant requests

Contract Administration

Maintain organized records for all active projects, including contracts, change orders, permits, and insurance documentation
Track subcontractor agreements and compliance documentation
Monitor contract milestones and flag upcoming deadlines or renewals

QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or project accounting role, ideally within construction, real estate, or a project-based industry
Proficiency with Xero (or QuickBooks or Sage, with willingness to learn Xero) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Solid understanding of accounting principles, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations
Familiarity with construction billing practices such as progress draws, holdbacks, and change orders is a strong asset
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
