Company Description

The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) is the national voice for hog producers in Canada, representing a federation of nine provincial pork industry associations. Based in Ottawa and structured as an incorporated, not-for-profit national organization, CPC is governed by a Board of Directors composed of hog producers from across the country. CPC focuses on strategic priorities such as market access, industry competitiveness, consumer confidence, public policy advocacy, and stakeholder benefits.

CPC’s financial operations support a mix of organizational and program activities funded through provincial member contributions, federal contribution agreements, and other funding sources. This includes managing day-to-day financial transactions, tracking program expenditures, supporting funding claims and reporting requirements, and maintaining accurate financial records to support accountability to members, government partners, and other stakeholders.

Role Description

The Finance Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Ottawa, ON, responsible for supporting the financial health and integrity of the Canadian Pork Council. This position oversees day-to-day financial operations, including preparing, reviewing, and maintaining financial statements, ledgers, and supporting schedules.

The role includes monitoring expenditures, reconciling accounts, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with not-for-profit accounting standards and relevant regulations. The Finance Officer collaborates with internal teams and member associations to provide clear financial information, responds to inquiries, and contributes to process improvements that enhance financial efficiency and transparency.

Core Responsibilities

Process and maintain accounts payables, including reviewing invoices, coding expenses, preparing payments, and maintaining supportive documentation.
Support accounts receivable, including preparing invoices, recording payments, and following up on outstanding receivables as required.
Assist with bank and account reconciliations and help investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Support the preparation and administration support for federal contribution agreements, including tracking eligible expenditures, maintaining supportive documentation, and assisting with financial claims and reporting requirements.
Assist with tax filings and government remittances, including maintaining appropriate supportive records.
Provide financial administration support for federal contribution agreements, including tracking eligible expenditures, maintaining supportive documentation, and assisting with financial claims and reporting requirements.
Support the preparation of financial reports, internal summaries, budget monitoring, and year-end documentation, reconciliations, and other financial records.
Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to identify discrepancies, maintain accurate records, and support effective financial controls.
Provide other accounting and administrative support as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field.
Previous demonstrated experience in bookkeeping, accounting administration, or a similar financial support role.
Experience with accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations, and payroll process.
Strong knowledge on basic financial reporting.
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, Dext, Plooto, or similar systems.
Experience using payroll platforms, particularly ADP, or comparable systems.
Previous experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range:$75,000-$80,000
