JOB SUMMARY
The General Manager oversees all aspects of Property Management with the mission of maximizing financial performance, guest satisfaction, and the employee experience. You are responsible for the hiring, training and performance management of all hotel staff. You possess great interpersonal, communication, sales and customer service skills with a talent for creative problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution. You are highly organized, energetic and able to get the job done. Your attention to detail is meticulous. You thrive on leveraging the ideas of all team members and continuously evolving the guest and employee experience. You maintain a positive attitude and set an example for the rest of the team and hotel guests, even in stressful times. You possess strong operational and leadership skills as well as previous hotel experience.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Management:
· Performs the role of “standard bearer”, ensuring that each criterion in Brand Standards is communicated, understood, achieved and maintained by hotel employees.
· Performs each criterion as contained in the “General Manager’s Standard Operating Procedures” in a satisfactory manner.
· Creates an operating environment that assures consistent guest satisfaction and maintains product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints. Initiates corrective actions as required.
· Executes marketing, sales, and operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed the hotel’s business plan.
· Ensures good safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures.
· Establishes and maintains applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
· Understands the government regulations affecting hotel’s operations, ensuring the hotel is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, provincial, or municipal authority.
· Works alongside hotel employees as needed and completes any work that needs attention in this hands-on role. Accepts full responsibility for managing an activity.

Financial Management:
· Develops accurate and aggressive long and short-range financial objectives consistent with the Company’s mission statement.
· Interprets and prepares financial reports and budgets for management that clearly explain operational effectiveness, trends and variances
· Monitors the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and financial reports. Initiates corrective actions as required.
· Demonstrates business acumen by making sound business decisions based on financial, statistical and production reports and facts, as well as on personal experience and opinions.
Leadership Responsibilities:
· Typically, directly supervises 2-10 employees at the hotel, including all department heads. Indirectly supervises all hotel employees.
· Maintains a pro-active human resource function to ensure a positive and inclusive employee culture. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee complaints and resolving problems as well as wage and benefits administration, and compliance with established labor regulations.
· Actively creates effective open-door communication that crosses departmental lines in order to reach all employees and enacts a leadership style that inspires employees to high performance.
· Understands Collective Agreements and ensures compliance.
· Maintains an appropriate level of community public affairs involvement.
· Deals with the general public, customers, employees, and government officials with tact and professionalism.
· Effectively manages frequent change, copes with interruptions and openly accepts feedback and ideas from others.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of 3-years’ experience as General Manager or 5-years’ experience as an Assistant G.M in a full-service hotel
· University or college degree, preferably in business and hotel management
· Knowledge and proven experience with overall hotel operations including front desk, housekeeping, revenue management, sales, maintenance, and food & beverage operations.
· Exceptional ability to collaborate with Department Heads to develop, analyze, adapt and execute hotel business plans
· Excellent communication skills both oral and written in English, French is an preferred.
· Accounting knowledge and practical experience creating and managing a hotel budget
· Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to foster a high performing and positive employee culture
· Exceptional commitment to guest and employee satisfaction
· Ability to prioritize and execute on hotel strategy through strong time management and organization skills
· Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods of time/frequently to interact with clients and employees both internal and external to the hotel. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Computer Skills:
The General Manager must have sufficient computer skills that will allow them to be able to use, in a proficient manner, all Company issued software programs implemented at the hotel, including but not limited to the following:
· Microsoft Word, Excel
· Yield Management Systems programs
· Property Management System (PMS) programs (Fosse, Marsha, GXP, Power of M)
· Daily Revenue System (DRS) programs
· Central Reservations System (CRS) programs
· Payroll programs
· Company issued internet browser programs
· Company issued electronic mail programs
