Job Summary
The Residential Elevator Site Inspector is responsible for ensuring that homes are constructed in accordance with Cambridge Elevating's hoist way specifications and installation requirements. This role acts as the primary field representative during the construction phase, conducting multiple inspections throughout the build process to verify compliance, identify deficiencies before they become costly issues, and approve projects for installation.
The Site Inspector works closely with homeowners, builders, contractors, project coordinators, and installation teams to ensure each project is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
1. Construction Site Inspections
- Conduct 2–3 scheduled inspections at residential construction sites throughout the building process.
- Verify hoist ways, pit depths, overhead clearances, machine spaces, electrical requirements, and structural framing meet Cambridge Elevating specifications.
- Ensure all construction follows the approved elevator shop drawings.
- Identify deficiencies early and provide clear corrective actions to builders and homeowners.
- Re-inspect completed corrections as required.
2. Final Construction Approval
- Perform final pre-installation inspections.
- Complete construction sign-off confirming the project is installation ready.
- Coordinate with the Project Coordinator to schedule installation once approval is granted.
- Ensure all outstanding deficiencies have been resolved before installation begins.
3. Customer & Builder Communication
- Serve as the primary field contact for homeowners, builders, and general contractors during construction.
- Clearly explain construction requirements and answer technical questions.
- Maintain professional relationships while representing Cambridge Elevating's commitment to quality and customer service.
- Assist in resolving site-related concerns that could impact installation schedules.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed inspection reports using company software and mobile devices.
- Document deficiencies with notes and photographs.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, approvals, and communications.
- Provide timely updates to internal departments regarding project status.
5. Quality Assurance
- Ensure every installation site meets Cambridge Elevating's quality standards before installation begins.
- Help reduce installation delays by identifying construction issues early.
- Recommend improvements to installation drawings or construction practices based on field observations.
- Maintain consistency across all inspections and uphold company standards.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies.
- Conduct inspections in accordance with applicable building codes and company standards.
- Identify unsafe site conditions and report concerns immediately.
- Maintain a safe working environment while visiting construction sites.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Postsecondary education in construction, engineering technology, building sciences, or a related field is considered an asset.
Experience
- Experience in residential construction, framing, carpentry, elevators, or building inspections preferred.
- Knowledge of residential building practices.
- Experience reading construction drawings and blueprints.
Skills
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods.

- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Attention to detail with a commitment to quality.
- Comfortable using tablets, smartphones, and inspection software.
- Valid Ontario G Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites daily.
- Comfortable climbing stairs and ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in unfinished residential buildings.
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based at residential construction sites throughout Ontario.
- Frequent travel between job sites.
- Company vehicle, fuel card, and required equipment provided.
- Occasional office meetings and training sessions.
- Some schedule flexibility may be required to accommodate builders and project timelines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 annually (based on experience)
