Overview:

Job Title: Tax Advisor & Preparer

Location: Thunder Bay, ON. Travelling to meet Members.
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent.

Position Status: Existing Vacancy

This is a travel-based role that requires daily in-person visits with members at their place of business. To proceed through the application process, you must be willing to drive daily to both urban and remote locations and possess a valid driver’s licence, vehicle registration, and a reliable vehicle.

This role requires travel to rural and remote member locations, which may be 5+ hours away. Candidates must be willing to spend up to two weeks per month working in remote locations, if required to meet member quotas and business needs.

Position Overview

The Tax Advisor & Preparer works directly with Members to understand their financial situation and deliver tailored tax strategies that minimize taxes in both the short and long term. In addition to tax preparation and planning, this role introduces Members to FBC’s full range of services, including bookkeeping, payroll, legal assistance, and access to financial and estate planning professionals. Support may also include estate planning, retirement planning, and cash flow management as Member needs arise.

The successful candidate will be client-focused, knowledgeable in tax and accounting practices, and motivated to build lasting Member relationships while providing trusted financial guidance.

This position is reporting to our FBC Winnipeg, MB location.

Key Responsibilities

Provide accurate tax and accounting advice to FBC Members.
Obtain member information to file and complete member T1 and T2 tax returns.
Build and maintainstrong relationships with Members, encouraging referrals and long-term engagement.
IdentifyMember needs and connect them with other specialists within the Company and network.
Maintain accurate records of all Member interactions and services provided.
Other duties as required

What You Will Bring

Education and Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience with a tax preparation or accounting firm.
Proficiencyin tax preparation and accounting software; Taxprep and Xero preferred (iFirm knowledge an asset).
Experience preparing tax returns for farms and small businesses.
Experience with corporate tax returns is an asset.

Strong client service and relationship-building skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to analyze unique scenarios and provide customized recommendations.
