Full job description

Crystal Glass Canada Ltd. is looking for a full-time Assistant Controller to join our accounting team.

Crystal Glass is an employee-owned company that has been operating since 1949. We are the largest glass company located across Western Canada, with retail, warehouse, and manufacturing locations. We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable individual to support our Controller and accounting department with day-to-day financial operations, reporting, reconciliations, and accounting processes.

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in overseeing the accounting and financial operations of the company. This position plays an important role in financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, budgeting support, internal controls, payroll-related accounting, and general accounting functions.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing deadlines, maintaining confidentiality, and communicating with management, branch operations, and accounting team members.

Responsibilities

Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
Support month-end and year-end close processes.
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Assist with balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting.
Provide support and oversight for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
Assist with payroll-related accounting entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
Support expense tracking, credit card reconciliations, and employee expense claims.
Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Prepare financial reports and variance analysis for management review.
Monitor expenses and identify unusual trends or discrepancies.
Assist with maintaining and improving internal accounting controls.
Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
Assist with tax filings, government remittances, and regulatory reporting as required.
Provide guidance and support to accounting team members as needed.
Work with branch managers and department leaders to resolve accounting or reporting concerns.
Assist with special projects, process improvements, and system changes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
CPA designation or progress toward CPA designation is considered an asset.
Previous experience in an accounting, senior bookkeeping, or assistant controller role.
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting.
Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable experience considered an asset.
Experience in a multi-branch, retail, construction, manufacturing, or service-based environment is considered an asset.

Compensation & Hours of Work

This is a full-time, salaried position with an expected salary range of $75,000 to $85,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

The Assistant Controller role requires flexibility in hours of work to meet accounting, reporting, audit, and operational deadlines. The successful candidate will be expected to work the hours reasonably required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, particularly during month-end, year-end, budgeting, audit periods, or other time-sensitive deadlines.

Due to the nature of this role, additional hours may be required during peak periods to ensure deadlines are met.
