Stick People Solutions is currently recruiting a Junior Accountant on behalf of Lanmark Engineering. Lanmark Engineering is a growing engineering firm seeking a detail-oriented and organized Junior Accountant to join its team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a Junior Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with both people and numbers, and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work.

Position Summary

The Junior Accountant supports daily accounting operations with a primary focus on customer invoicing and accounts payable processing. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, dependable, and eager to contribute to a collaborative and growing organization.

More than just a transactional accounting role, this position serves as an important link between accounting, project teams, vendors, and clients. As such, strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential. The successful candidate will be comfortable interacting with both internal and external stakeholders, proactively following up on information, and helping ensure financial processes run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Invoicing & Accounts Receivable Support

Prepare and issue customer invoices accurately and on schedule.
Resolve invoicing discrepancies with customers and internal departments.
Assist with work-in-progress (WIP) follow-up and project accounting coordination.
Communicate with Project Managers regarding invoicing status, proposal hours, and billable transfers.
Track project budgets, contract amounts, Purchase Orders (POs), and Authorizations for Expenditure (AFEs), ensuring information is accurately recorded.
Verify billing information, pricing, purchase orders, and supporting documentation.
Maintain invoice records and filing systems.

Accounts Payable

Enter and monitor company credit card transactions, identifying unusual purchases, missing receipts, or policy exceptions for management review.
Follow up with cardholders and team members regarding outstanding receipts.
Enter vendor invoices into the accounting system accurately and efficiently.
Match invoices with purchase orders and receipts where applicable.
Maintain vendor files and respond to supplier inquiries.
Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.

General Accounting Support

Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation, including digital receipt scanning, file naming, and document management.
Prepare basic accounting reports and spreadsheets.
Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
Cross-train to support other accounting functions as workload demands.
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Diploma or Certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 1–2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative experience.
Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Skills

Ability to prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Basic understanding of accounting principles and account reconciliations.
Experience working within a professional services, engineering, construction, or project-based environment is considered an asset.
Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and contribute.

Work Environment

Full-time, permanent position.
Calgary office-based role.
