ABOUT SSCS:

Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is a leading social service provider

in BC’s Sea to Sky Corridor. We operate within a large geographical area - from Mount

Currie to Britannia Beach. We offer 41 programs and services that support and enhance the

Contribution:

The Family Resource Coordinator facilitates the perinatal drop-in program and other Parent-

Tot programs supporting parents and caregivers with children birth to six years old. The

Family Resource Coordinator is part of a team who provide a safe and welcoming

environment for families and promotes healthy pregnancies to improve maternal outcomes.

The Family Resource Coordinator creates a safe and stimulating play and learning

environment suitable for the diverse developmental needs of children ages birth to six and

provides hands on support, referrals and information that will assist parents and caregivers

to enhance their parenting skills and nurture their relationship with their child/children. The

Family Resource Coordinator provides out-reach support to vulnerable families.

Qualifications:

1. Diploma in a related human / social service field/early child development

2. Two (2) years recent related experience working with families.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

3. Valid First Aid Certificate

4. Valid BC Driver’s License

Job skills and abilities:

1. Experience working with people both pre-and-postnatal.

2. Group facilitation skills and experience.

3. Experience working with families with young children.

4. Knowledge of nutrition, infant development, breastfeeding, and pregnancy issues.

5. Knowledge of parenting education and community resources

6. Emergency Child Care First Aid (including infant CPR) required

7. Good understanding of and experience working with vulnerable families.

8. Experience working in a program with a family-centered approach.

9. Experience working across cultures respectfully.

10. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

11. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required to attend programs across the

Sea to Sky Corridor.

12. Food Safe certification.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for parents, partners,

caregivers, babies and children.

2. Plans, organizes, and implements stimulating play and learning environments for

children and their families through weekly drop-in programs with some offerings in

the evenings or weekends.

3. Provides one-on-one support to vulnerable clients. This would include respite support,

personalized referrals, active listening, occasional transportation to appointments.

4. Liaises with other community service providers, professionals to coordinate services

and to ensure that interests of clients are considered in decisions affecting them.

Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.

5. Facilitates connections between participants through weekly drop-in groups and

offering activities that are are designed to reduce tension, to foster comfort, build

rapport and facilitate conversation in social settings.

6. Interacts with children to develop their social skills through play.

7. Shares information and resources and facilitates discussions with families on maternal

and infant nutrition, infant care, child development, and parenting

8. Encourages positive parent participation in play activities, offering feedback and

suggestions, when requested or required

9. Refers families to appropriate community resources as needed.

10. Assists with food preparation and serving of lunch to program participants.

11. Demonstrates cultural competency working with Indigenous families and community

by understanding local protocols, recognizing traditional territories, adopting

strengths-based approaches, and engaging in ongoing self-reflection to address

personal biases.

12. Demonstrates cultural competency working with newcomers through the ongoing

process of self-reflection, education, and active adaptation to ensure services are

welcoming, respectful, and effective.

13. Role models family centred strategies when supporting parents to understand their

child’s behaviour.

14. Follows protocol to ensure all toys and equipment meet safety standards. Identifies

and removes all potential hazards.

15. Collaborates and works respectfully with colleagues to ensure effective service

delivery consistent with agency and program mandate.

16. Connects with participants through emails and phone calls. Responsible to

administer survey forms to families, when necessary, to aid in collection of material

relevant to reporting and or accreditation. Maintains related records and statistics.

Produces reports such as intake, progress and discharge in accordance with

established policies and guidelines.

17. Administers other program enhancing initiatives such as the Farmers’ Market Nutrition

Coupon Program and other such programs. This includes reviewing applications,

communicating with successful applicants, weekly reporting, final report, supporting

the distribution.

18. Attends monthly staff meeting as set by the program manager.

19. Adheres to SCSS policies and procedures and meets all legal, contractual, and

financial and other compliance requirements required by institutions such as Health

Canada and CARF.

20. Represents SCSS in a positive and professional manner.

21. Stays current with SCSS programs and services.

22. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

1. Criminal Record Review.

3. Approved reference check.

Benefits and Perks:

Healthcare: We offer an extended health program for employees who work 20 hrs/wk or

more. The program through Group Health covers MSP premiums, dental, vision, prescription

medication, select alternative therapies, life insurance, and long-term disability. We also

have an Employee and Family Assistance program. The premiums of the plan are 100% paid

by the employer.

Vacation & Leave: Employees accumulate 6% vacation pay on all hours worked in the first

and second year of employment. After the first two years of employment, they earn one

additional day of vacation per year of service, to a maximum of 35 workdays.

Retirement Pension: When eligible, an employee will be enrolled in the Municipal Pension

Plan with a matching contribution by SSCS.

Compensation: As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is $29.17 per hour.
