About Us
At Davidson & Company LLP, our people are our strongest asset. From our humble beginnings in 1984, our entrepreneurial drive has grown our firm to nearly 200 strong and established us as one of the largest independent CPA firms in B.C. and the leading public auditor in Canada.
From our offices in the hub of downtown Vancouver, you’ll be introduced to the tax, audit and advisory services we provide across our diversified global client base, from our stronghold in mining & exploration to the emerging cryptocurrency and cannabis industries. And unlike the other behemoth accounting firms, at Davidson we offer the opportunity to explore and experience multiple facets of the accounting profession. From day one, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside our team of top-notch industry leaders as you carve your own path and make an impact here at Davidson.
About the Role:
Davidson is seeking a Senior Manager, U.S. Tax to play a key leadership role in our growing Tax Practice.
As a senior manager within the practice, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, leading engagement teams, and driving technical excellence in both compliance and advisory services. You’ll work closely with Partners to deliver strategic tax planning, ensure quality control, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the U.S. Tax practice.
This position is offered on a hybrid basis, balancing flexibility with in-person collaboration that supports leadership visibility, team development, and exceptional client service.
What You'll Be Doing:
No two days look exactly the same—but here’s a snapshot of what you’ll lead and influence:
- Review and oversee U.S. tax compliance for individuals, partnerships, and public and private corporations.
- Assist the assurance team with tax provision reviews and prepare and review tax provision working papers for non-assurance clients under IFRS and US GAAP.
- Provide strategic U.S. tax planning and advisory services to individual and corporate clients whilst navigating the complexities of inbound and outbound transactions.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of clients—acting as a trusted advisor and escalation point for complex tax matters.
- Lead engagement planning, budgeting, staffing, and workflow management to ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.
- Identify tax risks, efficiencies, and structuring opportunities, proactively advising clients on implications and planning strategies.
- Oversee responses to IRS and state tax authority notices, audits, and inquiries.
- Review complex technical research and provide clear, well-supported conclusions and recommendations.
- Ensure adherence to firm quality control standards and risk management policies.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Managers, Senior Accountants, and junior team members—supporting performance growth and technical capability.
- Collaborate with Partners on practice management initiatives, process improvements, and strategic planning.
- Contribute to business development efforts, including identifying opportunities within existing client relationships and supporting proposals and networking initiatives.
- Stay current on changes in U.S. tax legislation and translate developments into actionable guidance for clients and the tax team.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
You’re a strategic thinker, trusted advisor, and collaborative leader who thrives in a client-focused environment. Here’s what will set you up for success:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Strong expertise in U.S. tax, including individuals, partnerships and corporations.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive U.S. tax experience in public accounting.
- Experience in cannabis and/or cryptocurrency is an asset.
- Proven experience reviewing complex U.S. federal and state tax returns and delivering strategic tax planning advice.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, mentoring staff, and overseeing engagements.
- Strong technical research skills with the ability to interpret and apply U.S. tax legislation to complex client scenarios.
- Excellent client relationship management skills with the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly and confidently.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Credentials & Professional Development
- CPA designation (U.S. or Canadian with strong U.S. tax experience) is strongly required
- Advanced tax credentials (e.g., MST) are considered an asset.
- Davidson values leadership, judgment, client impact, and team development alongside technical expertise.
- Ongoing professional development and support for advanced U.S. tax training is encouraged
