Within our Underground Services Practice, we are seeking an Environmental Scientist in Calgary, AB. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience working on relevant transit or other infrastructure projects, preferably including both design and construction roles and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve.

Annual Compensation: $71,500 – $87,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Conduct site visits to oversee contractor compliance with their environmental management plan. Manage and raise concerns noted by our inspection team if those environmental protocols are not being adhered to, including submission of incident reports.
Environmental construction inspection responsibilities including attending progress meetings and preparing weekly / daily inspection reports.
Communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Analyze and interpret data and review environmental and technical reports.
Assist with maintaining, updating, and reviewing tracking sheets/logs for risk registry, RFIs, submittals, working days, other issues, etc. and ensuring that relevant documents are provided and dealt with in a timely manner.
Assist with maintaining an up-to-date deficiency log and ensuring all deficiencies are dealt with in a timely manner.
Increase LJB’s visibility in the industry by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations, including any identified professional association activities.
Field based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required (environmental science, biology, or related field).

Qualifications:

3-6 years of relevant project experience in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of environmental projects.
Excellent problem solving, decision making, and teamwork skills.
Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
Strong knowledge of provincial regulations and best practices in environmental management.
Fieldwork experience in environmental monitoring and management.
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
