Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

Lead lessons and programs for riders that develop rider confidence on the Conservation Halton trail network
Provide lesson/program experiences that focus on safe use of trails and skill development in riders of all ages and abilities in programs including
- Ways of the Woods – Mountain Bike Camp & Trail Stewards Camp
- Kelso Mountain Bike School
- Kelso Mountain Bike Race Series
- Kelso Cyclocross Race Series
Act as an ambassador for Conservation Halton; reporting on trail use, conditions, and safety
Assist with trail maintenance & development where required
Support program participants in bike maintenance and on-trail maintenance
Maintain a suitable bike for personal use while teaching and guiding. This includes:
- Ensuring the bike is safe for use
- Ensuring the bike is a professional representation of your abilities and certification
- Wearing and maintaining proper uniform, PPE, and equipment as described in the staff handbook
Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

Strong creativity, leadership, and collaboration skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer service mindset and the ability to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner
Education, training, or certification in sport, recreation, or education is an asset
Previous experience in a position providing instruction or guiding is an asset
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Ability to swim independently is required (for Ways of the Woods day camp)
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, on varied terrain.
Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
Successful candidates must complete and/or provide a copy of Level 1 Instructor Certification with PMBI prior to first day of employment (Visit http://www.pmbia.org/ for details)
Successful candidates must provide own:
- Modern Mountain Bike in good working order
- Helmet
- Gloves/Footwear
CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
