The mine is located a short drive from Wawa, deep in the forest where it is scenic and quiet. It is a real ‘boots on the ground’ setting. Team members reside in a camp environment and typically work on rotations, depending on the position. The camp offers excellent food, a sauna/gym, recreational room and the opportunity to stay connected with family and friends.

About the Opportunity
The Underground Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is an entry-level position designed for a recent graduate or early-career engineer looking to gain practical experience in underground engineering. The EIT will support senior engineers and project managers in the design, planning, and execution of underground projects, including tasks related to ground control, ventilation, and safety. This role provides hands-on experience in a variety of underground engineering tasks, preparing the EIT for future professional licensing and career advancement.

You are a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering-in-Training with a strong interest in underground mining and geotechnical systems. You bring a solid foundation in engineering principles and a willingness to learn, contributing to project planning, design support, and technical analysis under the guidance of experienced engineers. You are comfortable working both in the field and in the office, collecting and interpreting data, supporting inspections, and assisting with reports that inform safe and efficient operations. Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Job Duties

Project Support and Design Assistance:

Assist senior engineers in planning and designing underground systems, including excavation support, ground stabilization, and ventilation systems.

Perform calculations and create engineering drawings under the supervision of licensed engineers.

Participate in site surveys and data collection to inform project designs and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Technical Analysis and Reporting:

Gather, analyze, and interpret data related to ground conditions, geotechnical assessments, and environmental factors.

Prepare technical reports, summaries, and documentation to support project planning and decision-making.

Assist in monitoring and updating project progress and providing regular reports to senior engineers and project managers.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to company safety policies and procedures and participate in safety briefings, inspections, and audits.

Assist in assessing and mitigating potential risks associated with underground operations, including ground stability, ventilation, and equipment safety.

Ensure all engineering work complies with regulatory and environmental standards.

Field Work and Site Support:

Participate in site visits, field measurements, and inspections as required, gaining practical experience in underground operations.

Work alongside experienced engineers and site personnel to support ground control, ventilation systems, and other essential underground infrastructure.

Observe and document site activities, taking notes on best practices and identifying areas for personal learning and development.

Professional Development:

Work toward obtaining professional engineering licensure by completing required training and hours under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

Participate in on-the-job training, workshops, and mentoring sessions to develop technical skills and industry knowledge.

Take an active role in learning company processes, engineering standards, and project management principles.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

Familiarity with underground engineering principles, as well as basic knowledge of ground control, ventilation, and geotechnical engineering.

Experience with mining software (e.g., Deswik) is an asset.

Strong technical and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

Shift / Hours of Work:12-hours
Schedule / Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
