Position: Intermediate / Senior Environmental Technician
Location: Southern Alberta (primarily field-based with remote office work)
PIR-a Consulting Corp. is looking for an Intermediate / Senior Environmental Technician to join our dynamic and growing team. This is a field and remote-based office position open to candidates across Western Canada, with a preference for individuals experienced with Alberta environmental regulations and upstream oil and gas projects.
We work on a wide range of environmental site assessments, remediation programs, reclamation projects, and regulatory submissions, with a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and innovation. Our ideal candidate brings strong field experience, technical competency, leadership in project execution, and a proactive, solutions-first attitude.
About PIR-a
PIR-a Consulting Corp. is a boutique firm offering environmental consulting services with a mission to blend high-integrity science and modern technology. We are proud to support upstream oil & gas, tourism, and infrastructure clients across Western Canada. Our remote-first team thrives on flexibility, trust, and collaboration.
We’re not a top-down consulting shop, we value initiative, shared learning, and building tools that make work better for ourselves and our clients. We’re small, nimble, and actively evolving, and we’re looking for someone who’s excited by that kind of environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct and supervise field programs including Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation programs, reclamation assessments, groundwater monitoring, and site inspections.
· Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, and vendors during field execution.
· Manage day-to-day project execution while maintaining safety, quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
· Provide field supervision and mentorship to junior staff and contractors.
· Communicate directly with clients regarding project progress, field conditions, schedules, and technical findings.
· Ensure high standards of data quality, integrity, and defensibility throughout project execution and reporting.
· Review field data, laboratory analytical results, and contractor deliverables for completeness and accuracy.
· Support preparation of technical reports, regulatory submissions, and project documentation.
· Work collaboratively with leadership, scientists, and technical staff to support project delivery.
· Use cloud-based tools for project tracking, communication, and document collaboration.
· Contribute to internal process improvements, templates, and operational efficiencies as needed.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone with a strong practical foundation, leadership capability, and the ability to work independently in both field and office environments. If you’re organized, solutions-oriented, and take pride in delivering high-quality environmental work, we want to hear from you.
You ideally have:
· A degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geosciences, Biology, Reclamation, or related field.
· A minimum of 5 years of hands-on environmental consulting or industry experience.
· Strong working knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations and guidelines.
· Experience leading environmental field programs in upstream oil and gas environments.
· Experience managing contractors, coordinating logistics, and overseeing field crews. Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data quality and defensibility.
· Comfort working remotely with autonomy and accountability.
· A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field work.
Bonus if you have:
· Professional designation or eligibility for registration (P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Biol., or similar).
· Experience with remediation, and closure projects.
· Familiarity with AER, BCER, and Alberta Tier 1/Tier 2 guidelines.
· Experience with GIS, field data collection applications, or environmental database systems.
· Experience mentoring junior staff or leading field teams.
Work Terms
· Full-time or flexible work structure depending on candidate preference and availability.
· Combination of field and office responsibilities.
· Can be structured as employee payroll or independent contractor, depending on candidate preference.
· Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
· Opportunity to grow with the company into larger operational, technical, or leadership roles.
Team Culture
We care deeply about doing honest, defensible environmental work, and about making it easier for environmental professionals to do that work through better tools, better processes, and better collaboration.
You’ll fit right in if you:
· Enjoy working independently but also like collaborating with a small, engaged team.
· Are proactive, adaptable, and solutions focused.
· Take ownership of your work and communicate openly.
· Appreciate flexibility, trust, feedback and accountability.
· Like improving systems and finding better ways to execute projects.
We prioritize trust, communication, and shared ownership. There’s no busy work or red tape here, just a small team doing meaningful work and solving tough environmental challenges together.
