About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Team Lead, the Quality Technologist owns supplier quality, incoming material verification, and quality oversight of production work at RynoWorx. You will inspect incoming containers and component shipments, draft and follow up on Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), and analyze product samples and prototypes. The role also performs sampling audits of production work — first-off checks, in-process verification, final inspection, NCR documentation, and work-instruction compliance — and owns the inspection checklists used on the floor along with the templates and change control for build work instructions. You will investigate customer quality concerns end-to-end.
You'll work closely with the two Manufacturing Team Leads, providing the inspection checklists they use on the floor, auditing a sample of their work, and routing findings through the Engineering Team Lead and Manufacturing Manager. The role coordinates day-to-day with engineering, manufacturing, and shipping teams; tools and records are kept in SurveySparrow, Odoo, and Monday.com.
What You'll Do
Incoming, Sample & Audit Inspection
- Inspect all incoming containers and component shipments per inspection plans and engineering drawings.
- Perform sample and first-article inspection on vendor pre-production samples and initial production lots; approve or reject before full shipment receipt.
- Perform periodic audit inspections on existing stock to catch issues that passed receiving or developed in storage.
- Perform dimensional verification using calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, height gauges, and reference fixtures.
- Verify quantity received against packing lists and purchase orders; flag short-ships and over-ships.
- Conduct visual inspection for finish, weld quality, paint coverage, plating, and packaging damage.
- Tag and segregate non-conforming material; document results in standardized reports.
- Pre-schedule large container inspections to avoid stacking during peak production.
SCAR & Vendor Communication
- Draft and issue routine Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to vendors; track responses and verify corrective actions on subsequent shipments.
- Escalate major or strategic vendor issues for review and direct handling.
- Maintain the SCAR log; report status, closure rates, and recurring issues monthly.
- Support vendor performance reviews with data, trend analysis, and inspection history.
Audit & Oversight of Production Quality
- Perform sampling audits of first-off checks, in-process verification, final inspection records, NCR documentation, and work-instruction compliance across production.
- Author and maintain the inspection checklists used on the floor (first-off, in-process, final inspection) and supporting criteria documents.
- Own the build work-instruction template, format, photo standards, and change-control process; review work instructions published by Manufacturing for compliance.
- Document audit findings with evidence and severity rating; report findings to the Engineering Team Lead, with corrective action routed through the Manufacturing Manager.
- Surface defect patterns and recurring issues for engineering review; track findings to closure.
QMS Documentation & Maintenance
- Maintain and update QMS documents: SOPs, process flow charts, inspection checklists, and the lessons-learned database.
- Capture floor and inspection feedback; propose and author revisions, with engineering review and approval before release.
- Maintain inspection checklists in SurveySparrow, record inspection transactions and dispositions in Odoo, and track tasks, SCAR follow-ups, and container schedules in Monday.com.
- Support periodic internal audits of QMS documentation and inspection practices.
Sample, Prototype & Test Analysis
- Inspect first-article and prototype components from new vendors during product development kickoffs.
- Analyze samples and prototypes; produce inspection findings reports.
- Support definition and execution of product test procedures, surveys, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Identify components that would benefit from check fixtures or standardized inspection aids; communicate those needs to engineering.
Quality Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Collect and report supplier quality KPI data: Supplier Quality Index (SQI), SCAR closure rates, and supplier scorecards.
- Identify recurring vendor quality issues and recommend systemic improvements.
- Maintain the lessons-learned database and support root-cause analysis on escalated supplier quality issues.
Customer Quality Concern Investigation
- Receive customer-reported quality concerns and warranty claims; gather supporting evidence (photos, returned units, descriptions, serial numbers, build records).
- Inspect returned units; perform measurements, teardown analysis, and comparison against build records and inspection history.
- Conduct root cause analysis to determine whether a concern stems from a vendor part, production assembly, design, or customer-use factor.
- Draft investigation findings and proposed corrective actions; route to the Engineering Team Lead for review and customer response.
- Track concerns to closure and feed validated findings back into the lessons-learned database, SCARs, or work-instruction updates.
