Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Press Operator to operate our Primographic press at our Pickering facility. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring the press to produce high-quality printed board while maintaining safety, efficiency, and production standards. The Press Operator will lead the press crew and work closely with the 1st Assistant Press Operator and other team members to ensure smooth production runs and timely job changeovers.

This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, printing press experience, and a commitment to quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This job posting is intended to fill an existing vacancy within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Set up, operate, and monitor the Primographic press to ensure safe, efficient production and consistent print quality
Review job specifications and prepare the press for each production run, ensuring correct materials, inks, and components are used
Install and oversee the setup of print cylinders, anilox rollers, sleeves, and related press components
Monitor print quality throughout the run and make adjustments as required to maintain specifications
Troubleshoot mechanical or print issues and take corrective action to minimize downtime
Maintain accurate roll identification and ensure load tags and production documentation are completed correctly
Lead and coordinate the press crew, including the 1st Assistant and press helpers
Provide direction during press setup, production runs, and changeovers
Ensure team members follow safety procedures and proper operating practices
Communicate with supervisors and other departments to ensure production schedules are met
Oversee loading and preparation of large paperboard rolls on the roll stand
Monitor roll changes and splicing to ensure continuous production
Ensure materials and supplies are staged and ready for upcoming jobs
Lead press changeovers between jobs to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency
Ensure print cylinders, anilox rollers, and press components are properly removed, cleaned, and prepared for the next run
Oversee cleaning of ink fountains, trays, and blade systems
Ensure the press is properly prepared for the next production run
Ensure printed product meets quality standards and job specifications
Identify and correct print defects quickly to reduce waste
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe press area
Follow all company safety procedures and operating guidelines

Qualifications

Previous experience operating a printing press in a manufacturing environment required
Experience with Primographic or wide-web flexographic presses strongly preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Ability to lead and coordinate a small production team
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and meet production targets
