Start Date: June 29, 2026
Location: hybrid with in-person work in Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge (BC)
Duration: 8 weeks (until August 21, 2026)
Hours: 35 hours/week. Typically M-F, with some weekend and evening work on occasion.
Salary: $21.5/hour
Reports to: New Majority National Organizer

Are you creative, outgoing, and organized, looking for a summer job that is a little bit silly, a little bit social, and a whole lot important? Then you’re looking in the right place!

New Majority is hiring Community Organizers to help run our youth civic education projects this summer in communities across the country, and you might be the perfect fit!

This Community Organizer position is funded by the Canada Summer Job program. To be considered, you need to meet the following criteria:

Between 15 and 30 years old
A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or someone who has been officially granted refugee protection in Canada.
Legally entitled to work in Canada (which means you must have a valid Social Insurance Number)

What to expect

As a Community Organizer, you’ll work closely with our experienced team to pilot innovative new approaches to engage youth in Canada’s democracy. You’ll develop strong digital and in-person facilitation skills and learn the ins and outs of volunteer and program participant recruitment, administration and management. Best of all, each Community Organizer will get the opportunity to design and run one fun and exciting activation to engage the young people in their community, drawing on past New Majority events such as Dogs for Democracy or Democracy & Dragons.

As part of planning and implementing this activation, you should expect to take on a number of different tasks throughout the summer, including:

- Administration: assist with program scheduling, event planning and execution, and non-profit management; answer volunteer and participant emails; track outreach efforts and workshop participation in spreadsheets

- Facilitation: contribute to workshop design, program materials and event assets creation; creation; use provided program materials to lead workshops; follow organizational content and tone guidelines; adapt to various group sizes, audiences and timeframes with consistent outputs

- Community outreach: engage with youth and local community partners through canvassing days, presentations, tabling events or other outreach methods; call prospective and existing volunteers or event participants; test and explore creative forms of digital recruitment; train and escalate volunteer leaders

Community Organizers report to a national organizer, who will provide training and support throughout your employment. Community Organizers are required to report to their shifts in a timely manner, communicate clearly with their manager, and maintain mutual respect with their manager and coworkers. They sometimes work independently with the support of their manager, or as part of the team with other Community Organizers working towards similar goals and executing similar tasks as set by their manager.
