PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Social Media Specialist is a contract summer position that will work under the direction of the Social Accountability and Corporate Communications Manager and the Communications and Charity Specialist to support the agency’s internal and external communication activities, with a particular focus on youth-led, engaging social media content and exploring the use of AI tools to enhance communication workflows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Content Creation & Engagement:
- Develop creative, youth-focused social media content (graphics, short videos, reels, stories, posts) that supports agency priorities, programs, events, and campaigns.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Charity Specialist to align content with the agency’s social media strategy, tone, and branding guidelines.
- Support the planning and scheduling of posts across all platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X), using approved tools.
- Monitor audience engagement and identify opportunities to strengthen youth engagement and community reach.
- Assist in producing content series that highlight agency initiatives, staff profiles, community partnerships, and youth-centered topics related to mental health and developmental health.
AI-Supported Communications & Innovation
- Explore and test ethical, accessible AI tools that may support communications tasks such as content drafting, visual creation, caption writing, and basic analytics.
- Provide recommendations to the Communications and Charity Specialist on how AI can increase efficiency while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and tone.
- Maintain documentation on tools tested, workflow improvements, and best practices to support future communications planning.
Campaign and Project Support:
- Assist in communications activities for agency programs, fundraising initiatives, public events, and community engagement activities.
- Support the development of communication materials such as posters, slides, digital newsletters, and website updates under supervision.
- Contribute ideas for youth-driven campaigns that encourage participation and elevate the agency’s visibility.
- Help coordinate social media components of agency reports, initiatives, or project launches.
Research, Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct research on current youth-focused social media trends, mental health communication approaches, and platform innovations to inform strategy.
- Assist with monitoring social media analytics and preparing summary reports to evaluate the performance of content and campaigns.
- Track relevant media or online conversations that relate to the agency’s mission, identifying opportunities or risks to flag to the Communications and Charity Specialist.
Collaboration and Professional Representation:
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to gather information, stories, and materials for content creation.
- Uphold the agency’s communication standards, brand, accessibility requirements, and confidentiality
SKILLS
- Work in a computerized environment, knowledge of Excel and Word
- Maintain sensitive and confidential information
- Assess priorities, analyse and solve problems
- Demonstrate organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrate the ability to develop a sound appreciation and knowledge of the Agency’s functions and organizational structure
- Possess strong verbal and written communication, preferably in both official languages
- Ability to work collaboratively with other experienced professionals including school boards, colleagues of other health and social service agencies, local politicians, etc.
- Ability to work independently
KNOWLEDGE
- Oral and written proficiency in the English
- Basic knowledge or lived experience of the child welfare and children’s mental health and other social and health services
- Basic understanding of the spectrum of services available to youth and families in the community
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Knowledge and appreciation of issues facing our diverse populations (i.e. Anishinabek cultures, Francophone, Immigrant/Refugee, LGBT2SQ, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS
- Dedicated to improving outcomes for youth and have an interest and motivation in gaining meaningful skills.
- Motivated self-starter and exhibit a willingness to take on new tasks and actively learn on the job.
- Previous experience in a group facilitation and/or working with youth from various backgrounds is considered an asset.
- The feedback added from the perspective of own personal lived experiences will be a critical and valued aspect of the role.
