Journeyman Electrician

Job Summary:

The Petroleum Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of petroleum equipment and systems, including fuel dispensers, pumps, tanks, piping, and related electronic and mechanical components. This role ensures all fuel systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and industry standards. No previous petroleum experience? No problem — we’re willing to invest in your education and certification. If you’re a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working independently in the field, we’ll provide the training and support needed to build a long-term career in this specialized trade.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, maintain, and repair fuel dispensers, submersible pumps, tank monitoring systems, and point-of-sale (POS) equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic issues with fueling systems.
Perform preventive maintenance on fueling sites and cardlock systems to minimize downtime.
Calibrate meters and verify accuracy of dispensers per regulatory requirements.
Test fuel lines, tanks, and leak detection systems to ensure environmental compliance.
Complete service reports, maintenance records, and parts usage documentation accurately and promptly.
Work with customers to explain repairs, provide recommendations, and ensure high levels of satisfaction.
Coordinate with dispatch or management to schedule and prioritize service calls.
Follow all safety and environmental procedures during installations and repairs.
Assist in the setup and commissioning of new cardlock or retail fueling sites.
Maintain an organized service vehicle with necessary tools, parts, and safety equipment.

Qualifications:

Journey Electrician
Knowledge of fuel dispensing systems (Wayne, Gilbarco, Tokheim, etc.) is an asset, will train.
Understanding of cardlock systems and tank monitoring systems (Veeder-Root, OPW.)
Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Willingness to travel and participate in on-call rotation as required.

Preferred Skills (Assets):

Petroleum Mechanic Certification (PM1, PM2, PM3, or equivalent provincial qualification).
Experience with automation systems and networking (TCP/IP, serial communication).
Strong communication and customer service skills.

Work Environment:

Field-based role with travel to various commercial and retail fueling sites.
May involve working in confined spaces, at heights, or in hazardous environments.
PPE and safety training provided
